Towing Query
Hi All, looking for some advice. I’m prepping a Mx5 for racing and have seen the rules for tow wire as opposed to a tow strap. Currently the car has got JDM style fixed tow hooks fitted front and rear. They don’t exceed the body work but I’m unsure if I can just bolt the tow wire to them or do I have to get something else.
Any help would be greatly appreciated Many thanks Lewis |

Hi Alfa, I race an MX5 too. Steel towing eye are fine, loop diameter must be 80mm to accept any kind of strap. I use the front one, bolted to the cross member, to put my car on the trailer using the manual winch with no issue. Never tested the rear one so far. Its better to help the rescue to tow the car parallel and wheels straight… I prefer the steel towing eye than a strap, matter of taste.
Mine look like this: https://www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/spar...-eyes-7000216/ |

Thanks for the info. I’ve currently got these fitted so might have to either get new mounts for the sparco one or see if these will be ok as they are 60mm internal diameter.
