There is never any mention of prize money in F-1. I know that once a team scores a point they are elligible for money to assist transportation, but is there a cheque that comes along with the silverware for those on the podium?
If there is, does the driver keep it or does it go to the team? Last edited by SAIGON; 29 Apr 2001 at 03:26. |

Welcome Saigon, hope you enjoy the forum.
As to your question, short answer, Yes with an IF, long answer, No with a BUT. Real answer - I have no idea - but an interesting question |

welcome saigon. nice way to start your forum f1 career
interesting forum2 like wrex says. well F1 is a rich sport. as far as the team goes, they r paid in advance with a contract from FIA and the team in turn pays the drivers. |

The top 10 teams at the end of the season get the transportation costs given back and also get money from the tv sponsors, so last season, Prost received none of it.
I believe that the top 10 in each race receive money too, but am not sure of this. |

So it it the best kept secret in F1 or doest that honor go to Sauber Girl? Anyway, did I hear the announcer correct when he said that there were 100,000 people at the race today? If cheap tickets are $25 moving up into the hundreds for the premier seats then there is a huge chunk of change floating around. Who keeps it. Bernie? |

To be honest, the gate receipts at an F1 race are a surprisingly small part of the overall value of the event. Which is why the FIA was actually contemplating running Silverstone behind closed doors if the Foot & Mouth crisis had continued unabated.
Thankfully that threat has receded. The gate money is what keeps a circuit afloat for the rest of the year, and goes into the fund which will pay for any changes the FIA demands to keep it Grand Prix compatible. And that's why people like Octagon fight so hard to get the gig. You'll turn a profit staging a Grand Prix, but it's a fraction of the profit Bernie gets for the TV rights. |
