Janis in Champ Car for Australia and Mexico?

Just spotted this, apologies if it's been mentioned already:

JANIS BACK IN F3000 - BUT ONLY FOR ONE TEST

Former Euro3000 and International F3000 driver Jaroslav Janis tested a F3000 car at Brno in the Czech Republic last week, but only to re-acclimatise himself with single-seater racing.

Janis, who raced in the DTM (German Touring Cars) this year, is expected to make his Champ Car debut later this month, taking part in the races at Surfers' Paradise in Australia and Mexico City.

Source: http://www.formula-3000.net/newsdisp...sid=2004101401 - 14/10/2004

Any more on this? I remember being very impressed by Janis in F3000.

I heard that Janis was going to test with a ChampCar team in the next month or so, but I haven't seen any news re: him driving in the last one or two races of the CCWS season. Thanks for posting that link.

Interesting, so someone is either going to be rolling out a third car, or booting out an existing driver, F1 style!

Gentlemen, begin your speculation!

....is it a bit late to bring back that 2004 car count thread?

I understand it will be for Dale Coyne, in place of Gaston Mazzacane.

A change for the better!

Janis is solid, more than stunningly quick.

But he'll be an improvement on Mazzacane.

Janis has showed reasonable potential so far in his career, but coming into CART after a season outside of single seaters won't be an easy job. He's certainly mroe cpaable that Mazzacane, who has showed very little all season.

He was driving an out-of-date car in the DTM.

I've never heard of him, and I think Besnard will embarrass him on Sunday.

Janis > Besnard+Mazzacane

Even though he is much less experienced his resume is already far superior to that of Besnard and Mazzacane.

Walker equipment is probably about equal to Coyne's, so it should be an interesting duel. I think Janis has a lot of potential, he did well in F3000 - his struggles in the DTM may be down to equipment, or a lack of testing, or a simple inability to adjust to those cars (Champ Cars are a very different beast).

Having a superior resumé to Mazzacane's doesn't mean a lot really, and Besnard's progress in single-seaters was derailed more by a lack of moeny (and one huge crash) than a lack of talent. The jury's out on Besnard V Janis, although I'd say Valiente's more talented than either.

Don't worry,Marcus, I didn't say anything bad, however I did something dumb. I wanted to start a new post (The Milwaukee Mile announces 2005 date), but instead I pressed the reply button and the post ended up in this thread, so I had to wipe it out and do it over again. hrug:
