Volunteering for Le Mans
I think this has been mentioned before but what does one do if one wants to volunteer for Le Mans?
What experience does one need? What are ones chances of getting picked? One would like to know Last edited by EvilPumpkin; 19 Jul 2002 at 14:58. |

Me too EPW, I keep saying every year that I'm going to do it the following year but I actually mean it this time.
Pinki will go to Le Mans next year so come on peoples put me and EPW out of our misery, maybe Ali can tell us? |

Of course I can tell you Pinki - its too easy, really, just start by dropping Peter Todd at the MSA a letter saying "I'd like to marshal at Le Mans" January is about the right time of year.
You see, once you get there the ACO will want to see your licence and the permit thingy Peter Todd sends out to say that the MSA "allows" you to play with the foreigners. EPW - hmm, don't know the system for Irish marshals going abroad, maybe your ASN can help. Otherwise... I think apply directly to the ACO (did scottball75 do that? - PM him for his input) Its 5pm on Friday - so quickly - couple of years course experience needed, you'll be allocated a post by the ACO, you can specify and maybe get lucky, ask for peeps that speak English and get lucky or.... chances of getting picked - 100% now one knows instead of no one knows PS I hope you 2 will be very happy together at 3am on the Mulsanne. |

Ok and I would find contact details for the ACO by......
*hopeful* One is grateful Oh and since one is not permitted to do any fun marshalling stuff without one's other half, it'll be the THREE of us out on post at 3am being used as target practice by the B&Qsi....! Last edited by EvilPumpkin; 19 Jul 2002 at 16:13. |

Tell you what Al, I'll just wait until January and then when you start your organising, let me know and myself and Steve (the Drake) can do the same.
So I guess it's four of us on post now Last edited by pinki; 19 Jul 2002 at 16:23. |

There had better not be bats or I might just get all "girly" |

I don't like bats either though I'm not sure how they came into the subject.
Seriously though Steve and I were thinking of going onto a French post so that we can see how they do it. Oooops more beer logos. |

Somewhere around Indianapolis or Arnage would be good... cos that's where we're camping and we can bring you supplies!

Terri,
I marshalled Le Mans for the first time this year and it was fantastic - Mulsanne chicane two (Post 61) with other Brits, plus French, Dutch and others. Other large British posts at Mulsanne Corner (Post 70), and Indianapolis & Arnage I believe. Wednesday & Thursday - Practice 1900-2000 (supports), 2100-2200 and 2300-0000 (24hr) Friday - day off (walk the pits & paddock, find the showers, restock the beer cellar) Saturday - Race start 1600. Our post did four x 2 hour shifts (2000-2200, 0200-0400, 0800-1000, 1400-1600), but I think this varies depending on the post chief. Organisation was a bit confusing for a first-timer, but I really recommend you and Grant making it over next year. I'm trying to get some of the Croft crew to do it as well - Joint effort, like Anglesey? Regards ALAN |

Would anything stop you?
And bats came into it because what else would you expect if you were standing on a bush in the middle of the French bog at 3am? |

Sounds good to me Alan - but I think we'll bring our own BBQ this time if you don't mind! Either that or we'll annex Craig's. We're under orders to bring sausages....

Yes Chris - shame on you for eating the evidence. Serious looking men with rubber gloves will be over looking for it you know!
