Elan = Ford?
Does the engine that Panoz and Dyson currently use, the "Elan" V8, get its orgins from the Ford engine that Panoz has ran for the last several years?
Is it the same thing, only a different tunner? |

I am not entirely sure. The old 6.0 liter engine from the 2000 car was a NASCAR derived Robert Yates powerplant. A real torquey beast. The new 4.0 liter engine I beleive is based on Ford's new modular overcam production engines, but tuned by Elan Motosports. However, Elan uses a multitude of English firms to produce parts and I am sure they are tapping that expertise as well.

The 6.0 liter, pushrod, unit was based on a Ford powerplant. The Zytek designed, 4.0 liter, OHC engine is a purpose built engine having nothing to do with Ford.

Thanks Mike, I forgot about Elan's ties with Zytek.
