Welsh rally not the rally of GB
why is everybody calling the Welsh rally the rally of Great Britain not anybody on here but the puplic and the supporters of rally. It should rightfully be called the Welsh rally because every single stage is set in Wales not in England not in Scotland but in that little country called Wales. O.K fair enough a couple of years ago it was set in England and Scotland but in the last couple of years it has been set solely in Wales.

I don't think anyone disagrees at all! I call it the RAC still but I think everybody calls it the Swanseas suburban tour

Lets be accurate here, Its the "Cardiff and District Plot n Bash"
I'm surprised someone has not complained about trade descriptions, as I see it they would have a case, as it is not as described on the box. |

er, surely the Rally is totally in Wales and totally in Great Britain. So they can call it what they want.
Why not call it the South Wales Rally, none is in N Wales. Or the Swansea and Cardiff rally. Or whatever. None of the World rallies are all over every country they visit. I see no problem with the name. Although I would chose Welsh, but it isn't important. On the separate issue of the whole event. It was better when it covered thousands of miles and visited all the best stages in England, Scotland and Wales. |

Running it over a short area is typical fo the modern rallies, but it doesn't really bother me that those stages are in Wales. They are some of the most challenging in Great Britain, and it makes a change for a major 'Britain' event to be outside England.
No one in Scotland or Wales ever complains about the 'British' Grand Prix being in England all the time, or the US Grand Prix being thousands of miles from some of the country's biggest cities. |

One of the main reasons this rally was held in such high regard - not just by enthusists but by the ordinary people of England , Scotland and ,Wales was because it was called "THE RAC ROUND BRITAIN RALLY" _
And it did what it said on the tin Now didn't Tony Blair abolish "Britain " when he gave Scotland and Wales their own Parliament, Assemblies and law making? |

On a political note, why when the Scots and Welsh have their own Assemblies, do we have loads of Scots and Welsh troublemaking MP's?

The PM ain't Scottish, just went to Uni in Edinburgh I think. Unfortunately I can see this thread going the same way as the "Brits in F1" thread in the F1 forum went - closure

Oops, sorry Bob, my mistake
This is a quote from the 10 Downing Street website (http://www.number10.gov.uk/output/page4.asp, and the bit about him spending most of his childhood in Durham is probably where I got confused. Quote:

Back to the original thread! I thought the intention was to drop the GB from the title from next year in recognition that the whole event is underwritten by the Welsh Assembly/tourist board or whatever

I regret that I have lost interest in the WRC. I think I must be getting old as I keep thinking that the old days were better!
However, the WDA have put considerable investment into the event, and I doubt whether any other region would be able to provide that level of support. |
