Those last two laps were absolutely marvellous...of course it won't help the case for a new qualifying system that this last session was actually quite good.

the first two did better laps than or matched the ones from FP4 . and Michael did a 1m16.1 compared to 1m14.9 ..

I think the most interesting part of the qualifying are the top speeds....
... Alonso was quickest at 297.3, Massa 3rd at 294.5 (but nowhere in laptimes)... Webber did no better than 289.6 for 11th.. but qualified 3rd.. Kimi 4th 294.1 and fastest time I presume this is an indicator of the downforce/aero abilities of these 4 cars... the Renault seems a jet in a straight line (relatively anyway), but must give some of it away thru the wiggly bits... while the Massa Sauber is great in a straight line, but seems to hate corners, and loses a couple of seconds because of that.... While Potsie Webber's Williams seems to have dulled the outright speed of the BMW engine by loading the car up with every downforce device available... |
