Gerard should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
According to Autosport magazine Jacques Villeneuve could miss the Spanish Grand Prix because of a back injury.

The British American Racing driver apparently hurt his back in the Brazilian Grand Prix a month ago.

Villeneuve raced with a loose seat at Interlagos and has been suffering severe discomfort ever since. He drove for the team in the San Marino and British Grands Prix but had to withdraw from the final day of this week’s Barcelona test when the pain became too intense.

Villeneuve plans to see a specialist before deciding whether or not to race at Catalunya next weekend.

If he is forced to pull out, team test driver Darren Manning could be at the head of the queue to deputise.
However Frenchman Patrick Lemarie, an ex-Formula 3000 driver who is not as highly-rated as Manning but is a close friend of Villeneuve, was chosen to replace the Canadian for the final day of this week’s test.

Lemarie was 14th fastest, 0.9s slower than team-mate Ricardo Zonta.

That seems to be a posibility. Lemaire is not there because he is JV's friend or because he is French. He's been test driver since last year. And he is not highly hyped as Manning.

It would be a shame for the team if JV had to sit out the race. He is worth 4 or 5 places over Ricardo Zonta. But, after the disapointment of the British Grand Prix maybe a break would do him some good.

JV will drive in the Spanish G.P

He's a competitive person and there is just no way, injury or no injury that he'll miss this race.

after the Salo affair...I'd be too scared to replace any driver at BAR in case I was sued.

hopefully JV is fit enough to race..

Probably why they are going with someone nobody else is likely to hire.

As if anybody wanted BAR's secrets from last year anyway ... particularly Ferrari!

BAR are hotly denying that JV isn't going to race... so it looks like Manning needs to get along to his travel agents then
