A 5. Not that great. Only the Vettel and Hamilton swap shuffle and the multi-coloured car tussle towards the end really added any spice.
It does look like close racing is going to be very difficult with these new cars. This could make for some bad races. On the plus side - Ferrari and Baby Schumi are back. |

a bit disappointed overall, I thought the with engines and cars we would see more closer racing , not a gap of 20 - 30 secs .

Good race. Give it a 7. Good to see Ferrari up there, but hopefully this is just the first of a handful of wins!

I didn't see one DRS pass, so for me that gave it an extra point. The race itself was pretty dull. Was kinda fun to see Bottas chasing down Hamilton, but it ultimately led to nothing. |

Rubbish racing and massive performance gaps through the field. At least we'll have a battle on the scoreboard. 4/10.

If it wasnt for a swap at the lead, it could have easily go down as one of the worst races in history, right up there with the "races" Valencia used to produce
....and I say that despite all the excitement that comes with a season-opener....if it was mid-season I think beer cups thrown in and crowds leaving should be expected. |

A typical race, as it has been for the majority of the world championship and definitely as it has been for the last 30 years.

I really hope that will be the case this year too, because for this race to be typical, mathematically about 10 noticably-to-significantly worst races would need to come (fortunetely I dont see that happening) |

The 50% criteria is exactly what I applied. I meant typical.
There has been a dearth of real overtaking for decades. I'm happy with my 30 years being 1987. Although it may be slightly less than that. I'm also happy with my general comment as much of the '50s and '60s were a long way away from wheel to wheel. Cool that those eras were. |

4. The cars look like convincing F1 cars again. They look great.
Unfortunately, to get that, it seems they've given up the ability to pass each other. |

A four. Inability for cars at the front to not follow close enough to pass does not bode well for the season.

It's true, the airflow makes it hard to follow another. At this point I can't tell if it is better or worse than before. Or any worse than has been typical for the last few decades.

6 for me. cars looked nice and a final result which means im really looking forward to the next race.
do think we were more robbed by the reliability issues of the RB and Hass then we were by a 'failure' of the new rules to deliver. |

7.
Not a thriller by any means but I agree with Adam that this is standard fare for the kind of cars the regs have given us. I grew up watching races like this. That kind of strategic cat and mouse game for the lead was good enough for me then, and it's good enough for me now. |

5. I was pretty disappointed. Another dose of 'new regs' hype down the drain.....

Like a berk, I was a bit excited for the start of the new season. The cars are wider. Albert Park is a bugger for overtaking. Yawn, I hope Ross can make some meaningful changes soon.

Lol at those wanting more overtaking. The drivers start in order of fastest to slowest based on qualifying, simple enough, but doesn't this imply overtaking will be scarce? Although not always the case, if someone out qualifys you, short of strategy, how exactly does one expect to catch and overtake a car that started ahead of you because it was faster than you??? Deviations from the general rule of course happen, but can really be shocked when the grid is set fastest to SLOWEST???

My issue with the scarcity of overtaking here is that whilst I personally find 'scarcity' (but not absence) acceptable; the information age will not. So they're gonna come around with yet more silly gimmicks. That's what makes me nervous here. Very nervous.
