I hear that Paul Ricard Circuit has said it can run the 2004 grand prix, any comments?

That would be a good Grand Prix, although a better alternative, IMHO, is maybe to arrange it at La Sarthe for 2004. But maybe that's a little short notice.
In your case anyway, if Paul Ricard runs the 2004 Grand Prix, then will it be given back to Magny Cours from 2005 onwards? |

I love the article on Grand Prix that says there's no specatator facilities and access is **** - just like Silverstone used to be - the difference is that (a) its by the beach and (b) its owned by Bernie

"If it was proposed for tomorrow, we do not have the infrastructure to host the race," the spokeswoman confirmed, "But [circuit director] Phillipe Gurdjian has organised grands prix in difficult circumstances before and this would simply be another challenge."
In other words provided the airstrip was operational ther'd be no problem so thats all right then..... |

I'm too young to remember the days when the Grand Prix was at Ricard, but I'm aware that Magny-Corus was only located in that area so as to boost the local economy - which is ironic considering that it's now supposedly too expensive to run.
It would be good to still have 18 races, and bring in anotehr track that's less familiar to the current teams and seemingly highly-regarded by the fans. |

Ah, but if Le Castellet was to be used next year would it be the emasculated 'short' circuit used from 87-90, or the majestic old one with the massive straight?
Better still, move the race to Nogaro, or Dijon? |

You mean the Ricard run off areas, or the buildings around Pau?!

Good idea to switch, but looks like it'll be irrelevant...
From Autosport.com: "Bernie Ecclestone says that the 2004 British GP at Silverstone will be staged on July 11, the current date of the French GP. The FIA World Motor Sport Council will make a final decision regarding the date switch in Monaco on December 12, but the Formula One Management principal told AUTOSPORT that the move was "a formality."" |

Unfortunately, the FIA have a stupid rule in place about straights not being more than 1km in length. Does anyone know how long that backstraight is, 'cos if it's more than 1km then they might have to use one of those stupid chicanes halfway down it. Would be brilliant if they could use the whole thing
I'd love to see the French GP at Paul Ricard. It's a much better track than Le Mans Bugatti and Magny-Cours, shame about the spectator situation. I've made this point in the other French GP thread. But the GP at Pau, now that would be something! BTW, beautiful photo, Bononi Last edited by crozier74; 27 Nov 2003 at 23:03. |

I totally agree with everyone.
It would be fantastic if they could use that long straight. |

Why would you want long straights for? We might end up with cars overtaking & having cars outbrake one another at the end of the straights, we wouldn't want to get the fans to excited.

Paul Ricard would be great on the calendar in 04
Toyota will go well at that race. Does any1 kno if theyll put gravel traps instead of the run-off areas? |
