ALMS adds Road Atlanta to replace D.C.
Since Washington, D.C. race is cancelled. The ALMS will go down to Road Atlanta on June 27-29. ALMS other Road Atlanta event is the 10 hour enduro Petit LeMans.

Kinda lame to run the same track twice.

Hey, lets just be happy we have a replacement in such a short time. Losing those races, and leaving that gap was brutal to the schedule.
This was a good move, hopefuly the other date can be replaced as well. |

Sure, take it further down the coast, away from us fans in the Northeast.
Oh well, I guess I'll have to find something else to do that weekend! |

Now what's wrong with any race at Road A? It's world-class track that has always provided some great racing. NASCAR (as much as hate to use that company in the same breath with sportscars) has been repeating tracks for year, and with much success. The loss of DC and Mexico is a big blow, but i think that another race in atlanta - braselton to be specific - is a good move...Of course i could be swayed by the fact that i live 30 minutes from the track and this gives me an opportunity to get to another race...

At least your honest danhx!!! If the track was only a half hour from me I would feel the same way! I had plans to go to DC to see the race, its only about a 4 to 5 hour drive or I could easily grab a plane or train from NYC. Now forget it.
I could grab the 6 hour at the Glen Grand Am race!Dohhh!! I can't believe I said that!!! |

I was planning in driving up to DC for the race again last year (i worked at it last year), but i'm definitely not too upset to have been relived of the 11 hour drive...Hopefully they can work out the legal issues with the area and get the track back for '04. It was a perfect edition to the ALMS schedule and losing the venue for good would be even more of a blow to the growth of the series.

I've personally got no problems with repeating tracks. Raised in the NASCAR elememt, I'm quite used to it.
If there was one track to repeat, it should totally be this one. PLM is the best racing of the year, and now we have a true sprint race on that track. Also, the extra time at Road Atlanta will make for even better PLM set ups. Anyone who's planning on going to PLM (competitors) should attend this race for just that reason, which will result in a very strong grid. |
