St. Petersburg street course most likely to be added
The mayor of St. Petersburg, Fla. has been pushing for this race and now the city council has agreed in principle with the group headed by Chris Pook and Associates. Pook will give this race an inside track with CART as well.
I think I may email the city of St. petersburg and let them know I appreciate their interest. |

As long its not an oval or road course, I heard it was a partial road course but I am not sure. I just want some twisties involved instead of these narrow 90 degree turns on road courses. I really wish CART would use the infield courses on some of these courses, now that would be great, combining both like USGP, great idea.

this rce should be a combination of Cleveland and Long Beach. it should incorporate streets as well as an airport runway. So there should be room for alternate lines and creative driving.

I like the sound of the idea.
The blast along the seafront and down runways should be both unique and interesting to watch. I hope it is a huge success. |

The warm February temperatures along with the curved streets on the bay and the runways at Albert Whitted could make for the best race on the calendar.
Unfortunately, I can't recall how wide and cambered the streets are or whether any of St. Petes red brick "cobblestone" roads would be intersecting the track. Imagine the cars going from asphalt to concrete to red brick! I remember it was a serious pain on my Rollerblades. |

What? Good news about Champ Cars? I am amazed!
Racing in Florida in the winter is an ideal and praiseworthy suggestion. Let us put it in place of some short oval immediately! |

I had a bit of a shock when I read the headline, because I thought the location in question was St. Petersburg, Russia!! (I do know there is a place called St. Petersburg in the States too, it just didn't cross my mind! )

Suprisingly both towns have already held street races.Anyone know whether the new one in Florida is part of the one used for TransAm racing which I have on video?

I think the former Trans Am track is at the fairgrounds in nearby Tampa, but I am not 100% sure.
