A bit misleading there. Its still all in the rumour stage, all thats different is its now confirmed Ferrari are talking, which many people speculated anyway considering Red Bull have stated their intentions for a while now.

I think it's just increased the sign-up value of most of Red Bull's mechanics to Ferrari & Renault...to be able to compare like for like the engines within one outfit is quite strange...almost the opposite of the Williams & Benetton joint Renault supply in '95-97.

Surely Red Bull would want to assess which is the better engine first? I think we're all assuming it's the Renault, but I'm not sure it's so clear cut.

Well, they've gotta make the decision quickly as they will need to design the car around the engine (and mountings).

Well, since this years STR is last year's RBR (unofficially), surely next year's STR will now be this year's RBR which already has Ferrari engines in it?

Seems too simple.

The rules state that teams can share cars if they haven't be produced by an entity in F1. As this years Toro Rosso was last years Red Bull, which would have originally been a Jaguar design. Owing to tax reasons, the Jaguar F1 cars were on paper made by Ford (not Jaguar racing), this allows for the switch of chassis from Red Bull to Toro Rosso. The problem is that this year's Red Bull car has been produced by Red Bull and as they will still be in F1 next year, a simple switch cannot be made. That said, it may be possible for Toro Rosso to make a few minor modifications to the design so that it is technically a unique car. Assuming such a move is made (which it probably will), then from the Red Bull camp's point of view Toro Rosso should use the Ferrari units. The issue is whether Ferrari will agree to this given that Toro Rosso are likely to be further from the pace than Red Bull, which means that they are less likely to take points off some of Ferrari's rivals.

That being said though, we'd probably be seeing Super Aguri running with a modified BAR 007 rather than a remodified Arrows if it was possible.

Going by earlier reports, Berger intents to have a bespoke chassis and V8 next year. The V8 at the very least is confirmed so we'll have to see what happens with the chassis.

V8's confirmed cosworth leaving F1 that narrows it down to Renault or Ferrari and the italian STR team saying it would be good to have and italian engine earlier in the year and red bull saying they want Renault so i say it is pretty much a done deal just the papers are yet to be signed.
