On the one hand I like the idea of Honda coming back (being a Honda fan), but on the other hand I think it may be bad for Champ Car in the short term. The Champ Car formula at the moment is quite cost effective and competitive. Honda coming in could kill that. Cosworth doesn't have the resources to compete with Honda. Maybe they could come up with an idea for containing Honda without overly restricting them. Having Honda back would be very good for promoting the series.
As for Ganassi, having a competitive team in competition is always good and I personally would welcome that. I however won't be cheering for them. |

I want to keep the turbos. The cars look so much cleaner, and I love the sound. I don't think that they should change their "heritage" on the whim of a single manufacturer.
ChampCar is still growing. I'm afraid that it may be too early to bring in another manufacturer, especially one with pockets as deep as Honda's. As mentioned in the article, it's the only major series where a new team can come in, and run the same chassis/engine/tires as the champion. As for having Ganassi back... It would be a good thing if I could put my emotion aside. |

I'm double sided about Honda. I like them, but I fear it could bring trouble...
As for Ganassi, if he comes he'll be very welcome. He and Dixon have shown they still run well turning right by winning at the Glen... |

They'd lose Ford as the "Presenting Sponsor", and Cosworth wouldn't have a badge.

In all seriousness though I don't think Champcar needs Honda yet, or will benefit from their involvement. Maybe in 5 years or so, but 2007 is too much risk too early IMHO. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Honda leave Champ Car because CC was considering a non-turbo engine and Honda only wanted to do turbos? Then they went and did NA at IRL anyway. Now they want to do NA, and CC wants turbo. So I wouldn't be surprised to see them show up with a turbo.
It's pretty obvious KK is aware of the competition issue, and will have a plan for parity prior to any return by Honda. |

From the sounds of this, Ganassi's Lola is already back in the shop:

Honda's pitch is widely thought to be a common engine formula for both series in '07 using the IRL spec, which Cosworth has in the form of the Chevworth and the IRL has said its formula will stay the same. Clarke said he'd never give up on the idea of unification, so his pitch is, IMO, to dangle that pitch out there on the engine front.
As for Ganassi, Robin and Mark C. have always had their "secret sources" at Ganassi and seldom have any of their "secret leaks" panned out. In the case of the Miller column, I don't place too much stock in it. It's a "Sam told Harry's third cousin who told Sadie's son's neighbor who spun the story this way" thing. |

They'd need to come up with a way to regulate the engines so that Honda didn't outspend Ford (badged cosworths) but money would still be transfered to the teams. Something along the lines of what Grand Am does would make sense. Honda already has a 2.65L turbo engine that is compatible with the current chasis so I can't see why they'd object too much to a situation where they had to use it again.

If Ganassi hadn't burned so many bridges, he would be here now. IMHO

I'd welcome Ganassi back for sure. I think it would add contreversy and hype for CCWS.

Not to mention a highly qualified team, esp. if they got Mo Nunn back aboard...

i heard that Honda also was courting Penske, and would anchor IRL in 2007, as the only players now it seems are Honda, and Cosworth Ford...with Chevy giving a tad of cash to stay visible. Champ car is doing well, i hope the new chassis can muster the same thrilling races we have now- and really the Champcars are so tough, best things in openwheel
did anyone see sebastian give tracy the nose to the tail shove on an OVAL!>?!?! and it kept racing, ofcourse tracy got horned and walled it |

I'm unsure about Honda returning to CCWS. They tried to screw the series previously before slinging their hook and now it seems they want to return, but only on their terms. The series is working at the moment, Honda's return could hamper it.
Ganassi? Well, another team will be welcomed but I won't forgive and forget. |
