F BMW European Championship!!!

bmw germany said that dr. mario theissen is confirming an f bmw european champianchip. f bmw germany is not allowed to race with dtm in germany becouse of bmw don t want to race in this series. they need a good place with hight level and the f bmw uk need more driver and a higher level. theissen want the both series together for 2006 and nearly 40 drivers. (f bmw solarship in valencia were just 20 drivers this year. last year 60!)
bmw motorsports have two places in 2006. f1 and wtcc. theissen want to race f bmw european with f1 five times and five times with wtcc.

It should not be positioned as an international championship though. FBMW belongs at national level, taking drivers to the point where they're ready for F3 or similar. It should be an entry-level formula, not something for people to spend money travelling all over Europe to compete in.

This sounds like they are just relocating the german championship. The cost of more travel might be offset by supporting more upmarket packages? Moving downmarket to the 'Top 10' package not an option as this no longer has any TV coverage.

Someone told me something about the German Formula Renault championship moving from the BERU Top 10 to the DTM weekends in 2006. I have no idea if this is a serious possibility or not.
Anyway, it could make some sense if F. BMW does move away.

I'm sure the UK Championship will continue. The whole concept was for there to be National Championships. I imagine it's simply that BMW are not keen on the German version running with the DTM and Euroseries F3, because they have no presence in either.

ok, Rob, I haven't got the point before. Does anyone think that simply changing the name - from German to European - will make the series look stronger than the UK one?

I see where ale16 got that impression (as I did too); the original post does say: "theissen want the both series together for 2006 and nearly 40 drivers."

the german series went to spa this year already, so i'd guess it's just to align itself a little better with the dtm.

No,the whole point is its leaving the DTM,because BMW are not involved in that anymore.Apologies, seems I missed the first post, but the british series sems to be continuing anyway.
