Reverse Grids
I assume there will again be reverse grid races in the HPDC series.
I really hate them! I know it's supposed to make for good spectator entertainment, but seriously. Look at Wakefield Park's programme. Race 2 looks like being only 20 laps. So the first race could be won by ....say....19 seconds, then that driver starts from the back of the grid with only 20 laps to pass 24-odd other drivers. Suppose one of the lesser drivers ( it is a development series after all) punts you off the circuit and damages your car enough that you can't start race 3 - only 100 minutes later. Something like that could decide a championship! Surely if you earn the right to pole position you should stay there. |

There are 2 sides to the argument....
.. that the reverse grid is dangerous to teh fast cars, because drivers of varying skill levels and car capabilities populate the field from the mid section to the rear, and some of them have difficulty with their cars... ... while the other view is that its great training for the hot guys to learn passing other cars that are supposed to be of equal specification... and driver skill is a big part of the speed. It is dangerous sometimes because of the guys in the middle/back... as Adelaide proved, with more than a few cars now bananas due to input from rookies.... |

getting past 24-odd cars in a short race puts a lot of pressure on a championship contender to keep the points coming. Getting past starting from 10th means they're still amongst the points, and you have drivers of closer ability jostling for the front straight away. Good suggestion. |

Motor racing is not a lottery.
If you win the first race, you should be able to start the next from the front, the winners should not be penalized. Either that or for each race have a seperate qualifying session. Reverse grids just provides fake racing, you want the best driver to win, not the guy who finished last in the first race and gets a lucky break in the next due to him being on pole....it's juts not right. |
