Rossi won yet again on the four-stroke Honda, but didn't have it all his own way, as Ukawa led for much of the race and the Marlboro Yamahas of Biaggi and Checa were also challenging. Biaggi led the first lap for the Yamaha M1 this season while Checa threw away a possible podium when he fell.

Abe led the two-stroke brigade with a great ride to 4th. Capirossi appeared off-form back languishing in 7th place.

Kato came back down to earth with a crash while Aoki and Roberts both impressed, taking their best results of the season in 5th and 6th.

The race was stopped at 75% distance when rain started to fall. Some have questioned Rossi's tactics as he sat in third for a long time, then moved to the front and almost immediately raised his hand.

Nieto won his second race in succession after a fabulous race long duel with Melandri, who was riding with a broken left ankle. Melandri had led the early stages and appeared to be off for a second victory this season, but Nieto fought to the front after a poor start from pole to take victory.

Randy de Puniet kept the partisan crowd happy with third place after duelling with Locatelli for most of the race. Locatelli had led the early laps yet again but again fell back to finish another frustrating fourth. Rolfo kept consistent with fifth place, but would probably be disappointed after his brilliant second in Jerez.

Meanwhile, Australia's Casey Stoner again ran very impressively in 5th place but unfortunately crashed out yet again while chasing 4th place.

Lucio Cecchinello won his first race outside of Spain after a fantastic battle with Poggiali. After taking the lead around the halfway mark, Lucio never looked like being beaten, despite Poggiali having a few nibbles at the Aprilia rider. It appears Aprilia may have picked up it's act concerning straightline speed.

Pedrosa beat off local hero Vincent to take third place, but Vincent maintains his lead in the Riders Championship. Masao Azuma hit some form again after a recent run of poor results. A podium looked on the cards, but he became ragged towards the end and lost positions.

Finnish debutant Mika Kallio was again very impressive, gaining a tonne of spots during the race.

Ahh Checa's crash was because of some of the gravel that got on the track from Haradas botanizing tour.
Too bad.

Casey is running very quickly. Shame about the lack of finishing results. Though Japan wasn't his fault.

And well done Team Roberts!!! Excellent result for McWilliams in qualifying, excellent result for both McW and Aoki in warmup on Sunday, and an excellent 6th place for Aoki in the race!!!
Jurgen v.d. Goorbergh must be wondering if his decision to accept the team Kanemoto ride was such a wise choice after all. Both Aoki and McW are outperforming him on the very bike he did so much for last year.....

I'm a fan of Jurgen, and am sad to see him struggling as I was looking forward to him finally getting his hands on a two-stroke Honda. But it must be the Bridgestone tyres that don't help the equation.

nice crash by Kato.. first DNF since marco "big lips" meladri stuck his head under kato's front wheel.

I love the rumour that Fontuna are pushing to get Kato on a 4 stroke asap... lets hope its before half season and he can hunt down and kill rossi
;-p

I couldn't believe it when Kato fell. Like the commentators on Eurosport said, so he is human afterall! Perhaps he really could see his first win.
