WEC NAIAS 2015 press conference
The only racing series with a scheduled press conference at the show...the same show where Ford is expected to make their big announcement. But, what is it about? Do they really need a press conference at an auto show to announce another U.S. Date or continued agreement with COTA? Will it be interesting or ho hum?

I hope its more than the Ford connection. Im guessing its Ford to LM and the wec. But why does the wec need to be present? Im wishfully thinking its another race in North America.

It has to be more than just the Ford announcement as their programme is supposedly just for TUSCC and Le Mans. If were just that, it would be the ACO making the announcement, not the WEC.

Or Indy? Now granted, the track itself is anything but great, however, it's one of the most famous venues in motorsport, much like Le Mans, Monaco, Nurburgring, etc are.

Combining two of those is almost a PR orgasm!

(and it won't hurt it's a FIA grade 1 track as well.)

Didn't the most recent Ford rumor story say that they wouldn't announce racing plans yet? (autoweek)

Sebring? Reality is calling.

COTA extension - doesn't seem to be fitting, not big enough news for this occasion.

Maybe a major tv deal for north america?
You would think that whatever they announce must be important to the north american market if they feel the need to host a press conference at NAIAS

I don't know, but somehow that kind of announcement doesn't fit this auto show. Plus, not very realistic to expect a network deal when there isn't even one in Europe really.

I know that there's very little chance of covering all 6 hours live but a decent highlights package that can be viewed by many people would be positive for the series.

Also I don't remember WEC ever before making an announcement at an auto show, Andrew Craig must already be coming up with new ideas for the series.

If its a tv package, I hope its a full 6-hour on a sports network. Not likely, but maybe more than just those "60" minute highlight shows.

NASCAR isn't going to let another sports car series move in on Sebring. They didn't let it happen with Daytona or Watkins Glen.

Yes, if you head south from Detroit you will be in Canada.

I'm thinking it's a tie-in with Ford and announcing Indy...my guesses.

Montreal has been tipped as a possibility I read somewhere recently.

As far as a Ford LMP1 is concerned we all know probably not, but we don't know that for certain. That's why we get excited about mysterious press conferences.

After so many years of being let down I think we are all naturally cynical about rumors and press releases and such. I do feel though that sports cars and the WEC are finally start to reach the point where at least a small bit of cynicism and skepticism can be dropped as things are truly looking up. We have every reason for our hopes to be raised.

You mean rumored as the content of this press conference? Dagys mentioned this in his S365 article.

That Montreal is a possibility in the future has passed rumor stage long time ago when Neveu himself confirmed discussions.

NASCAR owns Road Atlanta and the lease to Sebring. They were the entity that bought the ALMS holdings.
