Adelaide Street Circuit Plans December 2006
There are plans to revamp the Victoria Park Race Course area to accommodate a new "purpose-built" grand stand and associated works.
Here is the article link in the Adelaide Advertiser http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/s...006301,00.html It is hoped that it does proceed and for once, the Major Events Board is able to skim a substantial dividend off the sales of the V8 Tickets to pay for the improvements. VESA just may have to forgo some of the income generated by the event to pay for it because elsewhere in my view, Sate Governments are far less accommodating. Mike Mike |

Mike, this is a great idea and I think might be a revised proposal from what was suggested after the sports car race in 2000, but I just heard on the radio that the opposition and democrates are already slagging it and the residents are complaining about the noise it will create. So all I can see is the wowsers once again stopping any progress in the state.

So does this mean that some of the track situated inside the Horse track will be changed. If so, I don't like the idea. The street circuit is awesome and should not be changed.

Don't think this has anything to do with VESA!! It's all about the AJC isn't it? On a TV interview the opposition said they supported it (they had been trying for the upgrade when they were in power), but then again they will be swayed by public opinion!

This 'upgrade' does worry me.
For the uninformed the track inside the racecourse is from Turn 10 to Turn 3. The small mock up images in the Advertiser have the major stand on the outside of the pit straight, and with the facilities being beneath this stand the pitlane would then bo on the outside of the circuit. The general shape appears to be maintained, however if the track follows the existing racecourse, the turn 10,11 section will be changed and to keep the rest of the track similar, the Senna Chicane would rejoin earlier on Wakefield Straight giving a longer run into Turn 4 I haven't been able to find any official release on the upgrade other than the said Advertiser article. |

Well I finally found the 'Master Plan'
http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/trans...asp#masterplan The proposed realignment has the track leaving at around the same spot, before going into a vastly different section, before hitting the final hairpin where pitlane entry could prove interesting. Then we go onto the straight which ends with a left hand curve before curving back for the Senna Chicane. The pit lane rejoins in the middle. This certainly could prove interesting, but if made wide enough it could work. Still the track probably would be ruined. Existing Victoria Park Proposed Victoria Park Master Plan looking North Motorsport Plan This is the motorsport fact sheet http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/trans...Sport_Fact.pdf Page 2 contains the potential track change. |

I read today that in Canberra the proposed new dragstrip has been dumped (was meant to be operational in '07) as it was too noisy/costly. Next page of the paper, the same laBOR ACT Govt have spent $70K on a statue of Al Grasby, a shady creature that is John Stanhope's idol!
Lucky that the same feeling dosent run through the SA Govt, who knows what may be planted instead of spending some dough on?????? |

"The SAMSB has no plans to intensify motorsport activities in Victoria Park".
Pity. On the motorsport plan, shown in the bottom picture of garbo6's last post, if they could join the track up from where the chicane kinks left, down, parallel with Wakefield St, and join on there where the track re-enters that pic, you would have a very cool, permanent short track. No road closures required to race on it. Obviously you would still use the long circuit for the Clipsal 500. Even if they didn't use the short track for motorsport, I'm sure cyclists would like it, and it could also be used as a much more central location for the annual Pedal Prix, instead of using Murray Bridge. And then once it is built, we just start lobbying like hell to let us race karts there..... then just let us have one round of some other motorsport there per year.... (to start with )..... c'mon, please????? |

Good post Rombles, I agree that we should have something there for the Cyclists, Pedal Prix and Go Karts in SA. VPR would be perfect.

If this plan went through Turn 8 would now be known as Turn 10, which doesn't have quite the same effect. The current Turn 8 will only change if they return to the full F1 track.

Id rather see a return to the Full Gp track.
The new circuit looks too tight and twisty to me. |

That's right rp.
Hairpin at the end of Dequetteville Tce, into short straight Hairpin into small wiggle. Into hairpin onto Pit Straight. |

I see they are cutting down the size of the horse track too. There is a bit that extends down towards Greenhill Road that is not in the new plan.
It also looks like the racecourse section is longer, which is good, it makes the lap longer! although a modern f1 car would probably still lap faster on this than the old circuit. |

It looks more like a go-kart track then a v8 track.
It would be a joke is this change happened. |

The bit towards the end of the lap looks abit mickey mouse, but no worse in some ways than it is now/has been since 1985. The lead up to the chicane could be quite good.
I say do it, if it wasn't for the history of the layout (ie...if it hadn't been around for more than 20 years), it would have a 'paperclip' reputation these days...... |

Yeah I'd agree with that. But permanent pit buildings and so forth are a huge plus. If only you could agree to get FIAGT/ALMS or an international back in there.

If the promoter is not subjected to "huge" construct/dismantle costs that the "temporary" circuit is faced with each year, it means "more" cash to intice BE and our beloved TC to get!!!! Big Red would be worried if Adelaide gets a "permanent pit row" because Mr Bracks would have to continue to cough up for Albert Park's annual build. Mike |

I thought our V8 driver liked stop go mickey mouse tracks. Ingall gave PI a big spray recently because the corners were too flowing and suited bikes better than cars. Perhaps big corners suit drivers with big balls. Slower corner speeds makes it safer to punt the guy in front of you out of the way. This should make for better racing and great TV. Perhaps we could rename the Adelaide street circuit, Winton by the Sea. |
