When is a Safety Car not a Safety Car????
when it is a Nissan at Clipsal 500 and does not have 3 flashing amber lights on its roof as required in Race Meeting Standing Regulations 2009. Ok it had flashing lights front and rear but dont these disadvantage all cars other than the one directly behind it when they are turned out..At least with roof lights the cars further back in the field have at least got some idea of a restart other than radio contact from the pits..When will CAMS abide by their own rules and regulations????????? NEVER?

The "entertainment interceptor:" is control by one guru, who has V8SCs interest's at heart and is employed by Cams.

It seems so simple, they could rid of all these problems just by using a council truck as the safety car. Much better visibilty, and they could set up some cones and have a nice smoko and cuppa tea while clearing the car and filling in O H &S paper work.
Could the teams protest the validity of the race on these grounds of non-compliance with the safety regulations? FPR for example? |

Maybe V8SA pay CAMS a fee to run their own rules - much like they did for many years with regards to numbering on the car doors - very few ran to CAMS regs which the rest of us pleb competitors have to abide by......

on a sort-of-related topic, i noticed the safety car was half way up the pit lane before the lead car got to the final corner before a restart. it used to peel of just when it got to the pits with the lead car right behind it. has there been another change made i didn't hear of regarding following the safety car right up to the pit entry?

None of the Safety Cars used at V8 events for the last 10 years have complied to the letter of the FIA regs.
I did wire up a Monaro for the 24 hour several years ago and it was done to the letter of the rules, even down to three separate fused / switched lights although it was one big light bar with 3 rotating beacons rather than 3 separate lights. Even the non F1 Safety Car at Albert Park isn't 100% kosher (I wired up the light set up a few years ago so it could be easily moved from car to car) and the F1 Merc's are nowhere near compliant either...... |

V8SC run to their own operations manual.
And they use the Datsun because no one else would pay them lots of money and supply cars for the track and to the black wiggle's crew to drive on the road. |

If they can charge 'lots of money' and someone will supply a car, then why not? (Small) Part of the money still goes to the teams, doesn't it? |

At 840000 by 29 cars, that's $ 24 million after VESA's own profits and expenses. I'd guess that money comes from multiple sources not limited to license fees for events, from Channel 7 and sponsors including bigpond, and why not nissan etc.

75% of ownership is with the teams, and 25% with SEL, so that's how the profits would go.

Noticed that the safety car used on the weekend in the V8 races simply had its hazard lights on, worse than the GTR.
Those Mercedes safety cars make the GTR look so average. The livery doesn't help though. |

Problem with the support category Safety Car late on Sunday arvo meant a Course Car had to be used in a hurry and because it only had Red or Green lights they went the hazard light option.
Believe all the drivers were warned about it prior to race start, also affected the Aussie Racers before the V8's as well. They used the proper Safety car on all the other races prior to the problem cropping up. |

Yeah the Mercedes safety car caught fire and had to be removed from the curcuit.
Great advertisement for Mercedes! |

In light of the comments I've copped on Facebook today and at the officials function last night no I wont elaborate further except to say someone modified my handy work from 4 years ago and it wasn't my fault
In light of the above I will say that it was not a Mercedes problem but modifications made to the light bar system after someone on this forum originally set them up back in 2005 Last edited by PVDA; 30 Mar 2009 at 09:00. Reason: To add Quote & extra comment |

And yes, if someone is willing to part with a large amount of cash to supply, not just one car, but a fleet for on and off track use by the Black Wiggle Crew, then so be it. But the list of Manufacturers that have declined is getting longer each year. The commercial advantages of the deal offered seems to be an offer too easy to refuse. Perhaps we'll see the Tata Nano out there next year. |
