For 2004 the figures pan out like this (Figures in Million Dollars)
1. Ferrari $336M 2. Toyota $321M 3. McLaren $313M 4. Renault $301M 5. BMW Williams $276M 6. BAR Honda $244M 7. Jaguar $229M 8. Sauber $142M 9. Jordan $76M 10. Minardi $50M Current 'point per dollar table' - in order of current constructors table. 1.Ferrari - 106 points/$336M = $3.17M per point 2.Renault - 61 points/$301M = $4.9M per point 3.BAR Honda - 46 points/$244M = $5.3M per point 4.BMW Williams - 36 points/$276M = $7.6M per point 5.Sauber - 10 points/$142M = $14M per point 6.McLaren Mercedes - 5 points/$313M = $62.5M per point 7.Toyota - 4 points/$321M = $80M per point 8.Jaguar - 3 points/$229M = $76M per point 9. Jordan - 2 points/$76M = $38M per point This clearly shows that despite spending the most Ferrari achieve the best value for money, with each point scored so far only costing them $3M, where as McLaren for example have spent $62M per point, with Toyota wading in at an eye watering $80M per point, with Jaguar not far behind on $76M per point. It also shows what a good job BAR, Williams, Renault and Sauber are doing in terms of return on investment. Clearly this does not include any 'marketing' value which undoubtedly teams like Toyota would place on F1 to offset the cost, but the final points table will have implications for the allocation of FIA funds for the following season, so there is serious money at stake. For example, McLaren's finishing position in the 2003 table was worth $36M, it's currently looking at being substantially less for 2005, unless the 2nd half of the season shows marked improvement. Read it/say it quickly, and it could be "Monopoly".
