Bell and Klien test for Jaguar.
As expected Klien will test for Jaguar this winter. However, I'm not sure I'd heard before so will Townsend Bell. They will get there chance as soon as the winter ban is over.
http://www.autosport.com/newsitem.asp?id=25293&s=5 A decent chance for both. it seems Jaguar want to tryout quite a few first... |

Yep - looks like options firmly remaining open at Jaguar.
Incidentally, I've seen Red Bull 'sources' adamant that they are only interested in a deal with Jaguar if Klien gets a race seat - maybe this is the first tryout to see the pace of him. Bearing in mind that Red Bull are alleged to have walked away from other F1 deals that did not suit their exact criteria. |

Working for the highest selling dedicated Jaguar Magazine in the UK - Jaguar World Monthly - and having dealt with Jaguar Racing I can lay money that they are interested in seeing if Klien is indeed up to it, but y not, they have nowt to lose! If he's quick, they get a future star that is bringing in a HUGE sum of cash to the team! Win-win situation! 2003 has made Jaguar, just think back 12 months ago - they were a laughing stock across the F1 world, now all the top out-of-contract racers are DESPERATE to race for them! Why should Jaguar rush the decision of their number 2 racer either, this is all great PR for them - all these top drivers wanting a Jaguar berth for 2004!

I agree that they should take there time choosing.
However on the subject of people desperate to drive for them. All the better (Ferrari, McLaren, Williams, Renault, Toyota, BAR) seats are taken. Jaguar also have a long way to go to make up for being a laughing stock. At the moment they are doing OK because it must be three or four weeks since a high profile member was sacked or resigned. And they have yet to convince me that they actually care about racing or want to succeed. |

The sceptic in me wonders aloud if these tests come with a price tag.

They've got to be kidding about Townsend Bell, he'll just be more cannon fodder for Webber. They may as well persevere with Wilson as to go for Bell.

I like Bell, and I'd like to see him start in a smaller team, with less pressure. I'm afraid the current state at Jaguar is'nt going to be good for any rookie to do well. I still think the Jag is a dog of a car, and the only guy that can make it look good so far is Webber. |

Klien is definitely worthy of the seat. He'd take some time to come up to speed, as a Formula One rookie - but he's capable of the job. And he's extremely fit - he's built of muscles.
He's consistent, can lead a race from start to finish without a mistake, and fights hard. He was one of a few drivers who showed themselves worthy against Briscoe in the Euro Series this year. |
