According to NASCAR.com:

DAYTONA, FL (February 10, 2003) - Arlene Pittman, driver of the #7 Lucas Oil Pontiac, lived her dream on the Daytona Track. Despite the rain delay, her spirits were not dampened when she took the green flag at the Speedway for the Goody's Dash Series NascarTouring opener on Monday February 10. "I had a good car. We weren't in the lead but we were in the pack a good bit," said Pittman.

On lap 23 while following close behind her car owner and fellow racer Gary Moore her Daytona Dreams turned into every racer's worst nightmare. "I felt a bump on the side of the car going into turn 4 and then I started spinning. When I came to, they were tearing the roof off the car," said Pittman. All of Pittman's safety equipment performed well and the spin could have been worse.

She was taken to Halifax Medical center by ambulance where she was treated for her injuries and observed for a few hours and released.

Pittman suffered a concussion and is bruised on her right side. "It was one of the best cars I'd ever driven. I remember being mad they took the roof off a perfectly good car," said Pittman. She also sustained some minor back injuries.

"It is not the ride I would have picked to end the race, but they tell me, It could have been worse so, I guess I am thankful," she added.

Pittman is grateful for all the fans and inquiries by the other racers as to her condition.
