alonso to leave renault?

I've heard rumours that Alonso is planning to leave renault. is this true? and if so, what are your views on it?

do you think this would help any WDC bid, or be a bad decision?

urm..it depends wheather Renault can compete with the top teams by 2005 because Alonso has been confirmed for 2004.
If he gets an offer from one of the top 3 and Renault are not competetive he should leave Renault.

Too many IFs ,no good trying to guess what will happen in 2005, but as far as i know Alonso is confirmed for 2004.

As the top 3 seem to have themselves sorted for the next season or so, then i'd have thought that Alonso would be happy staying where he is.

Should he leave, a bad decision would only be leaving to go to any team that wasn't Williams, Ferrari or McLaren!

Maybe he's planning to take Rubens seat at Ferrari or Juan Pablo's seat (if it's true about the McLaren deal) in 2005, and imo, both teams would be very interested in him.

I very much doubt it will happen in the foreseeable future.

No where to go.
Flav. loves him.
Renault is a good team.

Agree. Except Ferrari, maybe after Michael retire, offer big money...

I believe that in yers to caome Renault will be competeive wiht the top three, and therefore I think he should stay where he is - it's much easier to race with a car you know from scratch, and in a team you know for years, than making a 'new beggining'.

I think he'll stay where he is for now!

But, will all the other key personnel at Renault?

For now, i think he best choice is to stay at Renault, te evaluate the growth potential of french outfit.
If renault doesn't appear to be able to reach the top, he will better look for something else for 2005, but:
- Senseless to go to ferrari before MS retires
- Macs seats unavailable if JPM goes there in 2005
- Williams? mmmhhh.., would seem the first candidate to hire him, he would be an excellent replacement for Monty

Dunno; interesting to note, Briatore never erected obstacles to Ferrari plans, even when interests collided..

By the middle fo 2004 it will be fairly clear as to how mcuh progress Renault are making, and that'd be right time for Fernando to amke his decision. He's ambitious, and his market status and personal feeling will be sky-high after Hungary.

Whichever seat Montoya doesn't have in 2005 at McLaren or Williams would be ideal, but he'd also be well-advised to see how likely Michael is to retire earlier than 2006 - I think one big crash coupled with the realisation tha he's not invincible and unbeatable anymroe could tip him over the edge if he feels that title #6 is unattainable.

I think Renault signed Trulli again, with the very thought it would keep Alonso in his seat. They are great friends on and off the track and they seem to work very well together, better than most of the other driver teams out there.

I'm no fan of Renault, but I think they will be very competitive in the coming years.

i have to agree with that, over the past year or so they've become more competitive, and well things can only get better.

Well, I remember most were saying that about Jordan... a lot of things can happen, but it's a bit of a lottery unless you're already one of the top-flight teams.

Lets consider possibly having JPM and Alonso side by side, that would be exciting and probably be a view of two of the four drivers (the other two being webber and Kimi) who will challenge after MS retires
