New Sportscar Series
http://www.worldsportscar.org/
A serious contender for LMS or just another short-lived experiment? Right now is certainly not the right time to start a series like that, but with the engine-regs geared towards the S2000-cars there are at least plenty of potential manufacturers. Can anyone see FIA jumpinfg on the bandwagon to try once again to damage sportscar racing and help F1?? Last edited by Speed-King; 12 Feb 2009 at 20:45. |

The conspiracy part is way off the mark, IMHO. Applied for FIA approval...
Some of it is misguided for today, although noble in some of its aims, and could do with a logo |

They want credibility. Oddly they think FIA gives them that
Fair play to them. I can see what they are trying to do. A series for privateers. However, you are right, it isn't the right time. |

This is just another VdV/Speed series. Interesting to see they allow LPG but not diesel powered cars. Last edited by FIRE; 12 Feb 2009 at 21:12. |

I think Ratel and whoever promotes WRC thought similar about International GT-Open and IRC, respectively. 420hp for the turbo cars is certainly way beyond your usual VdeV-car. And then theres another 50 or so hp from the hybrid-drive. That's LMP2-territory. Last edited by Speed-King; 12 Feb 2009 at 21:20. |

Is VdV after several seasons a rival to LMS? The answer is no. Of course this can change in x years but it would highly surprise me.

Obligatory hybrid system.. that's an interesting one. Is 'E-traction' a brand name/control unit?

World Sports Car Gold Cup (the correct name) and the new SPEED series (ex-VdeV UK) have the same organiser, they also organize the FIA Historic F1 Championship!
Very experienced and prudently race series organisers, I wish Stuart and Oli all the best! Christian EuroBOSS Series |

Seems to be more of an amateur thing if anything, not meant to be a contender for the LMS.

In the cars section of their website they have a mockup of a Zeta BMW Turbo C1, it looks pretty nice!
Don't know if they will get manufacturer support but they say on the site: "Also the Le Mans Series (LMS / ALMS) suffers from the withdrawal of factory and private teams as Porsche and Audi. For this reason the new WSCO series has promising prospects to step in as an affordable and under standable racing series which pays attribute to today’s environmental requirements." So are they saying manufacturers should check them out? |

The TV coverage that is shown on the website is very extensive, how did they get that, is it just speculation or fact?

As I said before, people didn't give the GT-Open or the IRC-rally-series much of a chance when they originally appeared, and now they are both quite a thread for the respecitve big dog series in their sector.
Given FIA's current infatuation with cost cutting in general and the Super2000-rules in particular, I can see the series being looked upon favourable by the FIA. And the promoters seem to be pretty serious about advancing their series beyond the status of the other small-prottype-series as indicated by their races being on big-spectator weekends and them trying to get a lot of TV-coverage... Some big schedule changes, no more FIA-GT, only Truck GP and amateur racing weekends now. |

I thought to have 'World' in the name of your championship you had to:
1) Have races on three continents (they only have races on 1, 2 of which are in Germany, 2 in Italy and one in the Czech Republic. Hardly a World championship, I think calling it European would even have been a stretch of the imagination...). 2) Be an officially endorsed FIA championship (which they are not yet, and IMO, never will be. Lets hope they've already got another name ready.). I do agree that their list of TV broadcasters is quite impressive for a start-up championship, unfortunately for them though it's an "INITIALTARGET DISTRIBUTION" list, so it seems to me all they've actually got is a highlights slot on Raceworld TV. I don't know why they haven't added the BBC, RTL, TF1, RAI and ORF to the list seeing as they've got such a good imagination. |

They are "target" broadcasters. For some reason this series is so unlikely to happen it's moderately funny.

At all events except the Vallelunga Gold Cup they cooperate with the European Sportscar Challenge. Defacto the cars of the new series are integrated into the field of the SCC.
