The trickle-down effect on the motorsport industry in this country will be immense, if the catagory falls over.

Archer is closing down over a 5 year period and intend to maximise returns from its current holdings (including Supercar) over that period.
Hardly "gone" but going at some time in the next 5 years. As GTR says, we shall see what that all means in due course but I can't imagine anything will happen all that quickly, unless of course the parties that were reportedly considering purchase last year reactive their interest in the short term. |

Supercar has many more pieces in the puzzle than that business, however the sale timeline will still assure a proper process to search for their new parent... to maximise the financial income, and potentially to manage an earn out arrangement likely to be in place. An investment of $2m or so would produce a financial prospectus capable of being listed on the ASX... so that shouldnt be discounted as a possibility. Perhaps Mr Miles can effect a sale to another partner, as he did to Archer all those years ago |

Whoever buys it from Archer gets a bargain compared to what they paid for it. The multitude of unanswered questions about the category’s future won’t have helped Archers efforts to offload up to now anyway.

If Archer couldn't get what they wanted for it a year or so a go, they probably won't even get what was offered initially in this (5 year) fire sale

Has this just been bad management? The series seems to be doing well in regards to crowds/tv numbers, better than a lot of other series in fact (relatively speaking) so I'm missing the part were the value was lost????

I reckon post-2019 will be very different.
Holden will go. Nissan will extend their existing deal to the end of 2019, and leave as well. |

Heh heh, love your work, Alan. And he destroyed Pukekohe and Wanneroo for all spectators and other track users in the name of what Supercars couldn't live without. Not exactly setting the world afire on the GC, either. Appalling man.

Be interesting to see who the bidders are and whether the teams themselves might buy back the farm.

To the general public, Ford were never out of the series, they were still racing and winning. To the great unwashed, is the body shape change to a Mustang really much different to the change from an FG to the FGX? |

however to the buyers of the series having Ford back in would be a winner, how much of a winner is unknown and up to the buyer |

Ford adding a sponsorship to the commercial portfolio would make a small improvement but having a previous "deserter" manufacturer rejoin the series would give it a lot more credibility for a potential purchaser but might also mean a higher purchase price so double edged sword - at the least give them reason to not walk away but maintain an interest to see where it leads.

Its more about that there seems to be a future for the series....a potential buyer needs to know theres a future. Having Ford come back in provides for a little more secure future |

Public interest in the product and the popularity of the product surely has an effect on the sale price doesn't it?

CART had hugely popular events, four major motor manufacturers backing it, professional teams and big sponsors, and look at where it was in 2003. Having Ford back involved is great, but it hardly secures the future of the series in any way, shape or form. |

Having Ford back in doesn't secure the future of the series, I agree with you there but it does strengthen the series and if the series is properly managed the return of Ford could well be something of a watershed moment. |
