How would you rank the teams in terms of pace right now?
I left a line in between if I felt there was a substantial drop-off to the next team.
1) McLaren 2) Renault 3) Ferrari 4)Toyota 5) BAR 6) Williams 7) RBR 8) Sauber 9) Jordan 10) Minardi |

I think BAR are clearly ahead of Ferrari at the moment, and despite race pace being slightly inconsistent, Toyota are about at their level.
Boots has it right, though - McLaren are completely dominant at the moment, they're just being mocked by circumstance. |

It isn't exactly circumstance or luck that is scuppering McLaren - they have everything pushed to the max for performance and they are paying the inevitable price in terms of reliability. The team got themselves into this pushing the envelope to catch up mentality from about the time of the MP4-18, which was itself a reaction to the fabulous F2002 (which was a mini-revolution in F1 car design). As well as continuing to build a super quick car they also need to consolidate just a touch, which is hard to do when the Championships seem so well within reach.

McLaren - verdict is still out on reliability
Renault - solid, but seem to be losing some ground to MC Ferrari - inconsistent, tyre dependant it seems BAR - have moved up, could have strong 2nd half Toyota - not consistent enough yet Sauber - also inconsistent, BMW resources could help. Williams - disappointing still Red Bull Racing - tapering off from early surprise pace Jordan Minardi -------------- Sauber, Williams and RBR are in a dead heat in my book, makes for some good mid-field racing like at Silverstone |

Sauber and Red BUll seem to be evenly-matched, with different circuits suiting them differently. RBR's points lead should see them finish ahead though,a s this is the stage of the season where those teams are dependent on the reiliability of others.
I'm saddened by Williams' current poor form, and I hope they can restore respectability, but there is some vindication for me, as I suggested pre-season taht they would finish outside the top 5 and got chewed out for it - perhaps I'll prove right. |

The disapprearing Williams form is mystery - looking very positive for them at Monaco, and two races later it was all gone. Their position now is worse than it was at the start of the season.

Renault Bar/Ferrari...(Bar have goo qually pace while Ferrari get stronger during the race i'd say their pace is the same) Toyota Redbull/Sauber/Williams... (all 3 have similar sort of pace... not where Williams would want to be for sure!) Jordon Minardi |

Williams did well on the slow circuits but are too under-powered for the fast ones - I'd expect them to be strong at Hungary but slow at Monza, for example.

The question being how do wo rank the teams in term of pace "right now", I think Williams should be ranked below Toyota, Sauber and RedBull.
Does anyone know if Williams have now made their mind as to whether they will use the old or new version of their car for Hockenheim? Their performance at Silverstone, Webber using the latest one while Heidfeld using the old one, was not much conclusive and rather pathetic. |

The Renault's pace keeps astounding me. Everytime I think McLaren are going to run away with a race (like at Silverstone), the Renault just keeps hanging in there or thereabouts.
I think the McLaren may JUST have the slightest edge on Renault in terms of overall pace. But it's close enough to call them even at the moment, I think. So, in terms of outright pace: McLaren Renault BAR Ferrari Toyota Sauber Williams Red Bull Jordan Minardi |
