1970's 2-Litre Sports cars
Remember these lovely 2 -Litre sports cars from the 70s?
Chevron, Lola, Osella, Abarth, March etc. They raced in many domestic club events and the big Internationals such as Le Mans and the Brands, Monza, Spa and Nurburgring 1000km races. Many still race in the historic International Supersports races and in the historic races organised by Ed Swart in the USA. To start, here is Ian Grob's Chevron B31 |

Guy Edwards - famous for his sponsorship deals, persuaded his bank to fund his racing in 1972 in his Lola T290!

Yyyeeeessssss Andrew !!!
Actually, is Martin Raymond's the 2 litre or the 3 litre? Must be the 2 l that year. I did Le Mans in 79 and they were there with a DFV Lola. Ours was John Cooper's and Peter Lovett's Lola De Cadenet DFV. |

Yep Number 3. Bodywork lifting on the Mulsanne (no chicanes). Clutch went solid mid evening, then the lights all went out a couple of times. Out at 05.00 hrs Sunday. Unforgettable nevertheless.

Another winning thread Andrew, in my fantasy garage there are a number of 2 litre Chevrons, an Osellla and maybe a Toj. How I wish I had had the foresight to have bought one in the late 70's, it would be worth a fortune now!! Any more pics on the way??

Please excuse the verbal illness I'm suffering from this morning, and another post.
In the 80s we used a TOJ BMW in Thundersports and I swear it was the sweetest car to drive. The jewel in particular was the 2 litre BMW which if you kept the reves to 9,500, would go on forever. 9,700 and you were in trouble. Our car did well in international sports cars at Brands in 82 running third in the rain behind the Rothman Porsches at one stage, I think. Alan Batt in Bristol bought the car in 83 and we ran it carefully for 2 years. I go back to the basic balance of power weight grip and aerodynamics being so good. If I could work the system I have one or two lovely shots of the car. The Walkers bought the car from us; I don't know where it is now, but it's a gem. |

John, would love to see some shots of the Toj, did you run it in original Warsteiner livery, and did Rupert Keegan ever have any thing to do with it/you, or was that when Sean drove it? I seem to remember it coming ot grief in a Thundersports race at Brands during a Grand Prix meeting iirc....

Verglas - no, I don't think ours was ever in Warsteiner livery. Yes, that b....... Keegan hit me up the arse going into Paddock at the GP support race. God, was I cross. He didn't get out of the car so I through my seat at his screen. All on TV wasn't it? Such unnecessary damage.
Sean bought the car from us, painted it yellow. There must be something unticked in my machine, because it won't transfer images to this board. I'm happy to e-mail you direct and if you can please do put it on the board. |

Slightly 'off thread', the bigger brother of the T294, the 3 litre Ford DFL powered T380.

Here's a good one. Sorry, it's our TOJ again. This was the start of the 'final', there were heats - the 1st round of the Thundersports series I think '83. It's a fraud because as I remember, Derek Bell is already out of sight in Sigi Brunn's superquick 908 3.0 Turbo, which had fabulous red chevrons on the white base car.
That left Martin Birraine's georgeous Ford C100 and ourselves to chicken it out into Paddock. This is the one that was later driven by Keegan who put us into the wall just here in the GP back up race. Nice cars. I think the Chevron in the background had a Mazda engine. Great days. I need to start getting my facts straight though. |

Can you stand one more?
I think this was taken a later meeting too. Nice thing is these last two shots are Fred Scatley's. So bless you Fred. |

Thank you John, wondeful shots, glad you managed to get them on the forum at last! I was actually 'flagging' on Post 3 when Keegan took you out so un-neccesarily, iirc a car was leaving the pitlane as you were coming towards it and Keegan was closing down on you at a huge rate of knots then panicked, big time, when he saw the car on the pit exit road. I guess he was having problems coping with too many distractions.......
