Robert Ryan should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
V8utes at Manfeild in New Zealand

A good promotion by the Utes, could be a very successful event.

promax has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
the support racers are basically what you get at a typical truck racing meet at manfeild.. which is what this meeting is (with utes added)

the changes to manfeild are *cough* interest *cough* the right side embankment/grandstand is untouched. there is a freaking huge "important people" building/garages etc in the middle which blocks the view of the corner coming on or off (depending which side of the building your on) pit straight. the left side embankment/grandstand has been flatten.. it has been replaced with a new ply and plastic seat stand. it looks like it holds less people then what used to squeeze on/into the old embankment/grandstand. no signs of any new toilets or sheltered areas or anything else for the common people.

oh and it looks like the pits and the left side (97% of manfeild) maybe inaccessible unless you are willing to pay more.. if the signs all over the place are anything to go by.

hmm it looks like the people i talked to at the track yesterday were wrong. a grandstand and the new pit area is off limits to the general public. also the jet sprint track has also been filled in?

i haven't got any times as far as the utes go.. they don't look faster than the nzv8.. although i could be wrong lol jason richards qualified on pole and took out race one.

We were told 20+ pit garages with the corporate boxes on top were going in which will mean the removal of pretty much all the seating on the front straight area except right at the end and that a new grandstand viewing area was going to be built over by Higgins/Toyota area

And that over the next year or three they are finally going to reseal the bumpy goat track at a cost of 1.3 million

The trucks have long lost the apeal they once had with me, since Inky left it is a no brainer as to who will win. Is a tier 2 meeting so meh, not worth it overall.

it wasn't a bad of racing day (unfortunately i had to leave early) you're right about truck racing though. porter's 2 half naked promo girls get more attention than the actually truck racing.

i read an article in the latest nzv8 magazine basically saying that programmes for nz meetings don't cater for the fans that buy tickets. people that buy tickets to nzv8's, brutes, etc go to see v8's race not porsches or single seaters. after seeing the reception the porsches and some of the other classes received i think the guy might be on to something. classes like central muscle cars, nzsupersedans might of been a better choice than some of the classes that were present. once the utes left the track people left the stands until something like oscar or the gt's came out. btw that super quick tvr lowered the gt track record for manfeild. damn that thing is quick!

simon wills won race number two.

Pity they don't realise there is more then the V8's that people want to see.

Super GT's and oscar are good supports but the res are lacking, trucks are gone now I can only see manfield saw this and tried to get the utes as the headline act, ahh the old days with sold out manfield and Calvin Bonney rolling the Gintys truck.

Jason Richards took race 1 from Handlebars, and race two the 69 ute went one better with Simon Wills heading Marcus Zukanovic.
Incident between Jack Elsegood (still fuming) who was black flagged and Chris Pither, likely to stir the pot on Sunday.

Robert Ryan should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Appears there is a British ASCAR racer involved as well:
Quote:
Hi Guys ...

Just to let you all know thet Shaun finished 16th in his first Ute race ... he was running much higher when a wheel bearing went and it was all he could do the bring the truck home on almost 3 wheels!

Just beforehand Rob Jarvis who is sharing the truck with Shaun had finished 20th in the first race of the day.

Dean Perkins who is the NZV8 Touring car driver that Shaun has been working with finished 8th in his first race.

Shaun and the crew have been up all night working on the setup of the truck and rebuilding it and are hoping for a better result in Sundays races.

bwb1 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
It would seem that the results are provisional given that some utes have been impounded for having high dyno figures.
