So I've had a few years out of Proban. And now It's high time I got back to it.

It'll be a limited return to begin with, A couple of my favorite Hillclimbs to break myself back in.

Here's the rub. Accommodation.

I sold the big caravan I had, because it totally ate my driveway. And I downsized my car. (from a gas guzzling Saab 9-5 2.3 turbo Estate - to a much cheaper Astra 1.9 diesel Hatchback).

I have very limited funds.

So I guess my options are:

Conventional Tent
Trailer Tent
Teardrop Caravan
Small old caravan
Clapped out old Campervan/Motorhome

Which seem like the way to go for the first year. Ideally I'd like a teardrop caravan, But they seem to be the most expensive option of all!

Depends on how limited your funds are and how sure you are back for a long time.

FWIW, my 2.0 diesel mondeo had no problems towing a caravan, back when I had one. I paid £700 for an old caravan that was a bit tatty. It lasted the year I hoped for.

Even clapped out motorhomes seem to be a couple of grand. I gave up on that idea and went for a regular caravan.

Right now, though, I'm back on a tent. It took too much fuel to tow the van, so I didn't replace it.

Unfortunately I sold my small old caravan last year, so you've waited a year to long to come back!

Personally I'd avoid the old motorhome route. Potential for some very big bills added to they're easily (and if FB is anything to go by) frequently stolen.

In my view an old campervan can be the most convenient option (i.e. they take up less space on your driveway than a car and caravan, plus they can generally go a bit quicker than a car/caravan combination); however, this is probably outweighed by the fact that they hold their value exceedingly well, which means you can spend a fortune for something that is a bit grotty.

In addition, you'd probably be buying a van that lacks some of the security measures of more modern vehicles, which due to their value makes them a bit of a target for thieves. A further problem is that some camper vans have odd patterns of usage (e.g. they sat on driveways not moving for significant chunks of time), which can cause some issues.

When I have had the same debate with myself over similar choices, the disadvantage of a motorhome/campervan to me is about getting to post.
You can leave a tent or caravan behind for the day, with a van it would have to be packed down each morning.

How many days and what cost? Go for a pub/cheap hotel. Better idea anyway as far as I'm concerned. If you begin to do so many days that this is unaffordable, then look to some of the expedients you are considering.
