Newbie. What do I have to do?
Hey everyone, Sorry to bother you.
Just a quick one... I have a Sheane Formula Vee ("Suze" it's David Evans ex car) which is going to be raced next season (2010) in the full 750 Vee chmpionship. My best mate and myself bought the car just before christmas but his love of classic saabs have haltered out progress to be racing by the end of 2009. He's driving and I am engineering/spannering the car. Now thing is I am the one with the motorsport experience and he has none! I did karting for years, worked at weekends and holidays for a professional junior single seater team and have various other experiences (Prodrive being one!)... and well he has seemed to of lost all ambition. Anyway, everytime I go to my grandad's home, I end up sitting in the car, making the noises, going through the motions etc and well I've though to myself why not Hillclimb or sprint it whilst my friend beings to put some money together not to spend on bloody Saab's! So I'm based Newcastle term time and Carlisle in holidays, summers etc. Have a car which I can hopefully run and well need to get behind the wheel again. What do I need to run the car in Sprints/Hillclimbs? I am a member of Spadeadam Motor club but it's all about rallying and autotests (which are great fun by the way) Is the car eligible? What do I need licence wise? What clubs or organisation do I need to join, How much does it cost??! I wouldn't really want to travel far as I'd need to borrow my friends trailer as we are building a 16ft proper race shutle for 2010 so have no transport. Maybe Lancashire (3 Sisters?) up to say Glasgow and across to th North East (Newcastle, Teeside, Croft etc). All help is appriciated. Cheers guys. David |

David
Have a look at the Hillclimb and Sprint Association web site which should answer a lot of your questions. |

Ok, so i've looked at this page http://www.hillclimbandsprint.co.uk/allabout.asp and read quite a bit.
But one thing I really want to get straight is that you only need a National B "non race" licence? |

That's nice to know. My student loan doesn't go as far as a full race licence yet!

I think I read that you could only race A or B class cars of a certain engine size with the Non Race B, if you are entering a proper racing car you might need a full racing license... don't quote me on that one though, best to ask your club or I'm sure someone here will correct me.

Thanks for the advice. I was looking at the Northern Speed Championship which is organised by the Wigton MC which is my 2nd closest mc after spadeadam. I'll contact a few people in charge of the championship. Might have to get my full licence! I was looking at class J which is 1000-1600cc race cars?

Nat B is good for up to 2 litre single seaters and sports libre up to 2 litre. So you will be O.k.
