Changeover at the head of BMW Motorsport in 2011

Mario Theissen head of BMW Motorsport to hand over to Jens Marquardt on July 2011...

http://www.bmw-motorsport.com/ms_en/...on_1_july_2011

Marquard is an ex Ilmore (remember the old CART days) and Toyota (F1) guy... it remains to be seen if we also undergo an effect on the motorsports program beyond 2012?

Really sad to see Dr. Theissen go, he did such a splendid job representing the company in racing.

He was always classy and never a sour loser, I wish the same could be said of some other German make's head of motorsports...

Marquardt mentions the endurance racing campaign in his quote which is a good sign regarding the M3 programme.

So Dr Thiessen is retiring? He will be missed. Hopefully his replacement Marquardt can fill those big shoes.

I will miss Thiessen as well. One of the good things about him was that he would check up on BMW motorsports in all forms whether it was Sports Cars, Touring Cars or even F1. Hopefully his sucessor will bare the same grace he had.

Since this handover has been known since midsummer, and BMW has stated and restated its future philosophy during the time since, it's pretty certain that the direction of BMW Motorsport won't change.

Im not too concerned about that happening but I will miss Dr Thiessen for his class, leadership and personality (as others have already said), it wont be the same without him, Marquardt sounds pretty capable though, best of luck to him.

Is he? So it was pre-planned because he was announcing his retirement? I didn't hear that.

BMW always retire their executives at 60. Last year, Theissen had to decide whether to remain at BMW for 2 years or jump to Sauber F1 for potentially longer.

With 2012 in mind it's best moment to switch to a new head of motorsport department.

I´d love to see that but I don't think that's likely, his quotes made it sound like that he's really retiring..
