Kelly Racing Victoria Bitter Sponsorship (rumour)

Anybody look in today's newspaper there got a little article about kelly racing. It states that Victoria Bitter have been aproached to sponsor the team and that there are talks of contract signings sometime this weekend. None of us saw this one coming....

VB have intimated in the media before that they would get involved with the right opportunity.

Whether or not this is it remains to be seen.

The CUB/Fosters Group has a huge stable of promotable brands to be honest that all need promotion. In all reality, they could sponsor 2 or 3 teams and get amazing mileage of different liveries for different brands.

The livery should be interesting if that is the case.

Fosters have said in the financial press that they are cutting back on sponsorships !

I doubt the K Mart sponsorship involved many Coles Myer $s & whoever organised it may be putting a similar deal to Fosters.

Anyone know who is supposed to be organising it - I have previously asked the same question about the K-Mart deal but got no answers.

When there is no money for Capital works at the Fosters Group production facilities, and a Brewery has been closed & winemaking facilities sold or for sale, I'd hardly think that the $2-4 million a year that would buy naming rights is available to splash on a whim, but Sales & Marketing types do strange things.(like spending $2 mill on the TV ad for Empire beer !)

VB sells itself the the average V8 Supercar feral, singling out a particular team isn't necessarliy a clever way to spend your marketing pennies.

With a takeover of Southcorp in the wings, and a impending debt of $1.5 Billion, I reckon the Cookie jar could be a little empty.

I can see it happening.

CUB are no longer a series sponsor of the V8's, see launch.

As a business student, there is no need to reduce advertising just because of financial strain. Reducing advertising can lead to less customers and further financial strain.

Also, VB did have a minor sponsorship role with HRT and DJR in the past, something that does not appear on either of there cars this year.

Could Kelly Racing become known as VB Racing, and carry other logos on the car such as Wolf Blass ?

VB Racing could become a icon of the sport.

I read an article in a Sydney paper a couple of months ago, talking about Alcohol companies reducing there Sponsorship of sporting events etc, focusing (as mentioned in this thread) on pouring rights at these events, as they are seen to be more beneficial.

This rumour is going against this trend.

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
i think CUB have dropped their sponsorship of hRT and DJR because they back winners, not also rans.

i believe marcos ambrose has vb sponsorship.... he must be a winner

CUB have never been a major sponsor of any individual or team. They have poured millions into sponsorship of events over the years, and have sometimes been minor contributors of groups of competitors in different sports, but have always avoided putting their money into backing any one team or individual in any sport. They have spent money carefully backing various events in horse racing, athletics, motor sport, etc., to good exposure and effect. With their current focus on various takeovers, and fighting off takeovers themselves, I can't see this year being any different.

Still, stranger things have happened. There could be a smooth-talking b***er at Kelly's who might have persuaded the right people at CUB to see things differently. I know that CUB review their sponsorships at the start of the new financial year, so if this person at Kellys was at Bouverie Street last July, he might have been sitting on a secret since then. I don't think so, but if I'm wrong, I'll be delighted.

I'd suggest the smooth talker is on the GMH payroll, but that is with 0 proof.

Does your study include a cost benefit analysis?
Are you seeking to increase or maintain market share?
Are you privy to details of the K Mart sponsorship?

Would it be the same smooth talker that used to race a Jaguar in a by-gone era ?

I can confirm to all that the rumours of VB sponsoring are not true. HSv are the new sponsor, it should be anounced in the next day or two. The cars i think will look similar to HRT but with more silver than white

Didn't CUB sponsor Carlton? So is that the only time they sponsored a team?

You can wait, believe me u will not be dissapointed. As for the Victoria Bitter rumour, VB are sponsoring the team but only as a small sponsor. There logos are placed on the rear and small logos are placed up front close to the wheels.

Could you imagine Rick Kellys squeaky teenage voice doing the VB commercial.

"You can get it having a race, you can get it all over your face" ??

That line is probably better suited to a Clearisal commercial

reply to jasonhill

cold be for pimple cream or a 1902 late night ad.

On the sponsor topic had the "kelly racing" truck and transporter come past work (springvale road melb) sans kmart painted white/black / red.

From a rumor ive heard from holden. the team wll not have a major sponsor rather Mr Kelly will be fronting the bigger part of the bill with a lot of second tier names, eg, castrol, rainex, vb, HSV, and dunlop, as i said ive heard this as a rumor from holden.

So CUB and their many sponsorships haven't changed, then?

So I presume the Kelly team wasn't represented at the launch last Sunday. Been able to find very few media reports down here in Melbourne.

Not a single mention in AA. Interestingly hsvracing.com.au was registered by none other than Rob Herrod.
