Standing Starts

I saw something somewhere the other day saying that champ cars will have standing starts next year to spice up the action. Now as this racing series was suppose to be saving money it begs the question why have standing starts? increased stress on drive trains equals more breakages and more chance of stall on the line and shunts (more cost in repairs), I can see the reason to spice it up but at what cost?
