IROC at Texas (spoilers)
Hi everyone, I was just wondering if any of you got a chance to see the IROC race this afternoon. NASCAR is at Texas this weekend and it was round 2 of IROC, so since it was racing and it was televised, I watched it!
Sebastien Bourdais started from the pole since he was in last place in the points standings. He got shuffled back to around 5th or 6th at the start, worked his way back to the front, and led the most laps. He was passed by Kurt Busch at one point, but Busch had a tire problem (I think) and hit the wall, giving the lead back to Sebastien. Bourdais then held everyone else off to win! I know IROC isn't what it used to be, but it was fun to cheer for the Champ Car guy and even more fun to see him win! Comments? On the race, IROC in general... If you missed the race and if you're interested, SPEED Channel will probably replay it some time in the near future. Last edited by racefanatic; 16 Apr 2005 at 01:43. |

Great news! Mark Martin had very kind words and praise for Seabass as well!
"The biggest chance we had was if he would have made a mistake. It didn't look like that would happen," said Martin, whose Daytona win in February was his 12th in IROC. "He did an awesome job. He is an incredibly talented young race car driver." (Canada.com) Martin is one of the most respected drivers in NASCAR, and he is one hell of a road racer - so this is very high praise indeed! Unfortunately, I missed the race, but heard he put on quite show after the win. Doing doughnuts until the rear tires were shredded!!!
Nice work, Sebastien. |

Great job by Sebastien there. Amazing to see he's only the 4th foreign driver to win in this championship.

Great job, Kermit!
I wish the IROC would be a true test of driver skill and race in four different tracks! Here's what I was thinking: Daytona Long Beach Road America OR Watkins Glen Martinsville OR Bristol OR Milwaukee See? One superspeedway, one bullring, one road course, and one street circut. And all of those are tracks where a ton of people go to. What the hell is wrong with that? The IROC today is nothing more than a way to make NASCAR drivers look as if they are the best in the world. Yes back in the day when it trully was an 'Int'l race of CHAMPIONS'!! I remember watching Niki Lauda, Mark Revson, and Mario hot footing thru the esses at Riverside. Now that was special!! What you have now is a bunch of willing and desperate OW and sportscar drivers volunteering to serve as cannon fodder for the NASCAR PR machine... It is great when one of the OW boys can slip thru and steal one. And make no mistake, that was not the NASCAR 'preferred' result in Texas. Bravo Bourdais... but don't be surprised when you get punted at the next race by one of the good ole boys... |

Bourdais is a great driver! and he proved that against the NASCAR and IRL drivers, he sure is good on the oval as well!
This what he said after his victory! Quote:
