I'm spares secretary for a car owners club, and I can recommend doing a web search for your model of car, or for parts suppliers in general. Things like a Yahoo directory search can come in handy. Come to think of it, joining an owners club, if there is one, is a good idea, as they often hold stocks of spares or know where to go for parts.

Only trying to help Perhaps you should have made it clearer in your post.
I still say search the web. Everyone knows about the usual sources like Demon Tweeks, but there are plenty of other smaller (and often cheaper!) suppliers out there without the huge advertising presence. |

Raceparts in Wallingford are very reliable. We buy helmets from motorcycle racing shows, they are top quality at a frction of the price that car racing suppliers charge.

Fully agree about Raceparts, friendly advice and top quality parts. Generally cheaper than Dream-on Tweeks and quite often better quality too, they supply a lot of the professional teams.
There is a good hardware place over on the other side of the industrial estate from them too, useful for the stuff they don't sell (they'll direct you there if you ask). |

Wallingford is between Reading and Oxford.
Less than an hour from London by car via M4 is pretty quick. |

Raceparts do mail order if you are too far away. You are right about the hardware place opposite, they do some pretty unusual kit.

Merlin Motorsports are not bad - they're based at Castle Combe circuit.
Depends what race car parts you're after really? Helmets/Overalls, safety equipment like extinguishers, go faster bits? - narrow it down for us and we can help more. |

Raceparts, Rally design, both good places. I always tend to shop around. One good tip is to think where else parts might be used without the "motorsport" tag, e.g Rod ends & Spherical bearings are used extensively in the boat / yachting business, although have to say often get mine from RalDes. If you're not in a hurry and are ordering reasonable amounts it can be worth getting things in from the U.S. I bought a Smart Level gauge, cost $60 versus £119 from DT !
Note on helmets, Motorcycle rules changed last year for a new regulation UN-ECE-05 (I think) anyway m/c shops are not allowed to sell helments to BS 6658 any more but the MSA will not accept the new UN-ECE spec, I called and checked. Apparently they only do a single impact test (on top, not on sides or visor) and there is no batch testing requirements. |

Tony,
That's interesting about the helmets. I'm not sure if I am reading your post right, are you saying m/cycle shops aren't allowed to sell the BS helmets even though the testing is more stringent? |
