Monaco instead of Silverstone
Because a friend's parents got frisky on Sept 11th 1945, there's now a three line whip out for me to go to his 60th birthday party on the latest proposed GP weekend.
So I'm thinking of getting my annual proper F1 fix this year at Monaco. I know that they've welcomed marshals from the UK in the past. Is it still so ? If it is, who do I apply through ? And where's the best place for accomodation, etc. ? Can anyone offer any advice ? Thanks Bring On Woking, we'll beat them as well !! |

Simple short answer, you're too old for any on track marshalling. From the conversations I had that does include flags. I can't remember the exact rules, but it comes down to nobody over 30? as a new marshal.
Could be welcome in the pits if you can speak French. This info derived from speaking with Monaco chief pits/paddock marshal at Montreal 2003 Can only hope that rules have changed. see here - it was 30 limit for new bods http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...734#post766734 Last edited by Bodysnatcher; 28 Oct 2005 at 15:42. Aren't there some EU rules about being ageist (is that how you spell it?)?

I was privvy to that conversation too big Al and IIRC the "Rule" still applies! (I'd better volunteer then - whilst I am still in me youth!) |

How do you know how old I am ? Just coz my mate's 60 doesn't mean I am !!
Anyway, if they're ageist, I'm not going to go, so there !! Their loss, not mine !! |

Marshalling is voluntary and the organisers can pick and chose who they want. Remember the days when people did'nt get to marshal the British GP because (no reason given). And SFC fan - do you remember filling a date of birth field when you registered at Tenths ? Hint - profile. PS - ye can still ask the Monegasques, just that those of that have tried in recent years have met a pretty direct non, despite getting to know some of thems. |

Monaco _WAS_ on my list for circuits to marshal in my lifetime, I guess I can strike it off now - wrong side of 30 and all that.
Begs the question of the experience levels of the marshals then - must start them very young... |

Ah, experience. Having seen the 'photo in Autosport sometime ago of the Monogasque(?) Doctor, fully kitted up, helmet on and asleep on the trackside wall, with F3000's flashing past in the background makes me think I'll rather go to sleepy old Towcester (even if I was young enough for Monoco)
