Kimi finally showed us that he still has it.Several flashes during the year and this time it all held together for him.It seemed a popular win and it keeps the championship alive a bit longer.Max was the next nearest luminary.

A great drive by Max, but it's got to be Kimi. He didn't flinch when Hamilton moved over at the start and he kept it together later on. when coming under pressure from Hamilton, even though his tyres were shot.

Mr Ricciardo as he again proves that the bloke in the ‘lead’ red car can’t pass another car cleanly to save his life..

I was going to give it to Max, because today is the day when I decided that he is the real deal and not just a very fast crasher.
Then i saw Kimi smiling, and gave it to him instead. Seriously, he took full advantage of the improved Ferrari speed, Mercedes tactical errors and Seb's over-desperate driving to score his first win since Max was in nappies. |

Pleased for Kimi, but still reckon it has to go to Max - coming through from the back and making the most of everything with a very clean fight with Lewis.

Great drive by Max but this one has to go to Kimi. And very pleasing to watch him do it as well. For once, Pete's vote will be bang on the money!

Again, Kimi has proven to be the driver of every race this season. This time I do not need to explain why and I shoukdnt ever have to. What I do also know is that Ferrari has made it blatantly obvious that they have chosen the wrong driver to be alongside Leclerc. |

Kimi's form and showing he had lost little of his real speed. His actions spoke louder than all his critics words......

Realistically, I guess they shouldn’t have signed Leclerc.

I wish I could agree with that. However Ferrari needed to move on. Kimi hasn’t been able to compete at the high level required. His comparison to Vettel is poor and in other situations when presented with opportunities (e.g. Monza) he wasn’t able to capitalise and most situations he can’t get close enough to an opportunity.
Love him. Thrilled for the win. But he’s a few clicks away from top team calibre. |

I think he IS top team calibre. I would have agreed with you if it wasn't for the last three races. Once it became apparent that Leclere was really in the frame (around or before Monza) it seemed Kimi stepped up a gear. He out-qualified S.Vettel at Monza and finished second. Then came a good run at Singapore which was a procession but he acted the perfect wingman. Same in Russia and Japan, beating Vettel home. USGP right behing vettel and got a front row start he turned into a win. This is NOT the performance of a man who doesn't know his craft. Kimi does know his craft but he has been tipped into a supporting role in a team that really has ebbed and flowed on emotion since the depart of Byrne, Brawn and Todt.. If there is anything underneath it is simply motivation. He was paid well for working at 90% of what he was capable of. If you fix anyone into that position their motivation will go and there is no motivation, even if you are paid well but not allowed to perform at your optimum. You are in a straitjacket. Money is NOT everything. It means NOTHING at all to a person who knows that are not appreciated or allowed to perform at their fullest capability. Every competitive and capable person hates that. It is soul destroying. but once he knew there was no renewal he had nothing to lose. Seb was making a mess of thing and Kimi was given a long enough lead to take advantage of the opportunities when they came up. He has done that. What we see know is a Kimi who is able to drive like he owns it, not a servant or a slave.... He will still take a back up role to Seb when he needs to but the chains are off and he is a free man again. |
