BTCC What If/Scenario Game
There have been a lot of what ifs in BTCC history, so I've come up with a game for people to do during the BTCC off season consisting of what happens if these scenarios, um, happen.
Anyways, at the start of each month, ill put a scenario in the thread, and a set of criteria that your version of this scenario has to conform to - and then you guys can give your versions of what could happen in each scenario. Then, at the end of each month, ill give you my version of the scenario, as well as awarding some points for the best scenarios (in my opinion which may or may not be gospel); 5 pts for best down to 1pt for 5th. Also only one version of the scenario per person otherwise it'll be a long day for me coz I've got to look through them. With that all said, I'll give the first scenario on the Monday after the Brands Hatch Finale, and I hope to see your scenarios Also you are more than welcome to suggest scenarios for me to consider doing Last edited by Matt_123; 4 Oct 2023 at 22:02. |

Because it is the FIRST EVER scenario of Season One (Motorsport with Starline Racing, do you get it) I'll give you a little teaser of the first scenario - feel free to guess what you think it may be, and ill reveal all on Monday.
Your Teaser is - It's a 2024 rumour |

Yes, the first what if scenario regards the Team Dynamics return - and for this the criteria is: Talk about the drivers - who drives for them - and what the other teams do if they're driver leaves The car - what car will they drive TBLs - how many cars will they have Performance - how well they will do Other interesting stuff you want to mention Also there is no limit to explanation - and it can be as unrealistic as you want You have until the end of the month to submit how you see it happening - then I'll award the points and have a go at the scenario myself So, with that being said, everyone... What if Team Dynamics returned for 2024? Last edited by Matt_123; 8 Oct 2023 at 21:40. |

Tbf in my head i decided if noone replies ill do it myself and we can all learn something.
So, dynamics return to 2024. I can see them using 2 Hyundais from Excelr8, with the help of Excelr8, as I feel the Dynamics name is strong enough to attract sponsors to not need to hire someone like Jack Butel and the like. So with that, I believe that Bobby Thompson will be the first driver signed, as Neal does like him. Also, I believe that Excelr8 will only give Dynamics the Hyundais if they put Dan Zelos in the other car. I dont see the performance being that bad. I see decent amount of top 10 finishes, maybe a podium for Thompson. but overall a decent runner for 2024 somewhere in the region of Power Maxed and One Motorsport. Might do this again, might not, either the scenario or you guys suggest what ifs for me to do at some point. |

Yes, I feel this is getting nowhere. Predictions can easily be made in the news and rumours thread.

This is one of the more confusing threads that I have come across. I don't get what anyone will learn by reading what you are guessing, unless you have some kind of insider knowledge or foresight that others lack?

I'll give it a go - see if it moves things along (if I'm understanding correctly):
Team Dynamics return Driver one is Rob Huff. He manages to secure the right sort of deal to put him on the grid, and leads the TD entry for 2024. Driver two is Gordon Shedden. A long-standing member of the team (with a couple of periods away). He slots in to the second car in the team. Driver three is Nicolas Hamilton. The entry is rounded off with the addition of Hamilton in a 3-car entry. The car is the Cupra León. Both Huff and Hamilton bring experience of the car, and with certain TD-affiliated personnel having worked with HARD. in 2023, the team sees the potential for the Cupra to be a championship contender. TBLs - 3 in total. These come from two former HARD. TBLs and the Boardley owned TBL is on loan. Performance - Shedden is in the top three for the first few meetings of the season, with a pole at the second meeting. Huff takes a few rounds to get up to speed, but then sets three consecutive poles from meetings 4, 5 and 6. By the time they reach finals day, Huff, Shedden, Sutton and Ingram are all in contention. Shedden drops out of the running at round 28, and then acts as rear-gunner for Huff to take the title. Hamilton scores 3 points finishes before the mid-point of the season; He takes a reverse grid pole in the latter half of the season and secures a podium finish. |

Right, next up, something else.
In 2006, SEAT lost Rob Huff to the WTCC, and in his place brought in former champion James Thompson. Then he also went to do WTCC for SEAT, so he only did 6 rounds - with Darren Turner doing the other 4 plus the finale at Brands. However, he won 3 races in 2006, with teammate Jason Plato winning 8 races all season (3 of which in races Thompson didnt race in,) so.... What if James Thompson does the entire season for SEAT in 2006? |

Well, I believe Thompson finishes 2nd in 2006 if he does the entire season, just outscoring Plato, with 5 wins. However, Neal is still the champion, and SEAT win the constructors AND manufacturers titles. Darren Turner still does the finale, and his performances, as well as SEAT offering Thompson some money, enable SEAT to create a 3 car team for 2007, of Plato, Thompson and Turner.
This forces Vauxhall into also creating a 3 car team, of Giovinardi, Chilton and Matt Neal, who joins Vauxhall a year earlier than in real life. Dynamics put in Rob Collard alongside Gordon Shedden, and Team RAC stay the same (Turkington and Onslow-Cole) As for the title, Giovinardi still wins the title, from Plato, Thompson, Neal, Turkington, Shedden, Turner, Collard, Chilton and Mat Jackson, in that order. SEAT also win the constructors title in 2007, however there is no cameo from Menu and Coronel at Brands Hatch. This reignites a passion in Thompson, coming so close to a second title two years in a row, and stays for one more year at SEAT. Plato and Turner do the same. Vauxhall, however, believe that Chilton is holding them back and replace him with Mat Jackson. Chilton then goes to Halfords to team up with Shedden - like in real life, when Collard joins Steven Kane at Motorbase and Team RAC stays with Turkington and Onslow Cole, instead of Stephen Jelley, who joins Robertshaw Racing alongside Harry Vaulkhard. Giovinardi retains the title, with Plato, Neal, Jackson, Thompson and Turkington in tow. Shedden, Turner and Chilton come after them in the order. Vauxhall win the Constructors, and SEAT, after coming 2nd again, pull out at the end of 2008 like in real life. James Thompson joins Dynamics in 2009, and it follows real life from there. |

They did. They bought the car that had been driven by McRae at Knockhill after Matt wrote his M3 off at Donny |

Suggestion:
ARG don't pull out mid way through '84 and the TWR Rovers and RDE Metros continue in the series into 1985... Rouse still wins the 84 title but '85 is a much more competitive scenario with ARG v Rouse/Ford v BMW GB (who also stay on in '85) v Volvo (new 240T entry) v Colt v Toyota (2x Supra) Class B sees the Metros v the Longman Escort RST, the Bluebird Turbo and the Alfas but a Bimmer 323 also comes in from Germany... So who drives what and how does it all pan out? |

Yh this one was a hard one to research for... |

If ARG had stuck around then Soper could have returned for a full campaign in a Vitesse (he didn't do the full ETCC), partnered with Lovett, Pond or even Percy if he fancied staying in the UK, and Watts would have had a great chance in the Metro.
Looking forward, 1986 wouldn't have been anywhere near as dire as it was. Certainly quite a juicy scenario to imagine! |

My strong suspicion based on what happened to TWR in the early part of '84 is that Tony Pomd would have definitely been retained in one of the cars for '85 and as Lovett was effectively dropped, either Soper or Allam would be in the other car and once again a 3rd car would be entered on occasion for Win Percy. A full works Rover and BMW presence would force Rouse into running a 2nd Sierra probably for David Sears.. CC Motorsport would carry om with the works Bimmer 635s with James Weaver leading but with and Vince Woodman replaced by Mike Thackwell (F3000 commitments permitting), David Kennedy or maybe one of the works European regulars... Toyota would put more effort into the very promising Celica Supra and sign Chris Hodgetts (to replace Rover nound Percy) alongside Barry Sheene. Joining Dave Brodie's main car would be Colin Blower in a 2nd Starion in half the races. The Volvo effort would be a quasi-works entry assisted by Eggenberger but run by Marshall Asquith with Patrick Watts in one car. Gerry Marshall would pedal the 2nd car when Brancatelli or Dieudonne were busy on ETCC duty. There would be a selection of privateer Rovers and BMWs as expected. In Class B the Computervision Metros would be driven ny Robin Brundle and Metro challenge graduate, Roger Jones with Paul Taft joined by another challenge graduate, Alison Davis in 2 seni-works cars. The Datapost Escorts would be driven by Longman and Curnow with a 3rd car at selected rounds for Mike Smith. Graham Goode would once again feature strongly in the Nissan Bluebird and the Bimmer 323/325i entry would appear from mid season with Frank Sytner, Whizzo Williams and Winni Wogt all getting a go. The Alfas would be Jon Dooley, Rob Kirby in the Dealer team cars as usual with Phil Dowsett and Norris Miles in Terry Drury's cars. |

I have a feeling Percy would have stayed at Toyota alongside Sheene. And as for Mitsubishi, I expect Buncombe would have been the second driver. After all he was entered for British GP support, but his place was taken by Schuppan
Otherwise quite a mouth watering entry list and certainly would have been interesting to watch |
