Ended up buying the esprit instead, less work + parts required, Beetle is going to be a huge restoration for whoever gets it, which i hope will happen as it would be a shame to loose such a famous car. Stevie |

I tell you whatyou guys have hit the nail on the head here in a roundabout way. All these 'Where are they now' threads and it all boils down to one thing, if a car is worth less than the sum of its parts it invariably gets broken and is lost for ever. I had that situation with the Penske IROC I bought a few years back, Rock Crusher gearbox, fully floating and prepared Ford 9" axle, nice 4 bolt engine Airhart brakes, those bits would sell for more than I paid for the car and the guy was gonna break it. However is it worth me putting the time and money into the project and doing a full restore and saving a bit of American Racing History? I do hope so!

These wierd + wonderful cars deserve to be restored + kept just as much as any other, there are plenty 70's + 80's single seater + saloon cars going about, but the one off special saloons ect are more interesting in my opinion, would love to see a full grid of them racing again. but as you said, too many people just see them as a source of parts !! |
