Jesus, you're asking for it! Have you any idea how popular and well-remembered those cars were? Brace yourself. let the avalanche begin!

Try this 6R4 gallery.

For a brief history, click where it says 'A Brief History.'
The only way to estimate the whereabouts of cars still in competition is to watch the results pages. Many are now used in Rallycross, but there are still quite a few involved in club rallying.

If you need anymore links, let me know. I've got hundreds!

There's one here in Queensland, Australia. It was entered at a recent club race meeting. Of course, the promotoers had no idea what to do with it, so they stuck it in the sports car races. The driver was inexperienced on tarmac and qualified about 20th in a field of nearly 30. He finished in about the same spot in both dry races, but the last race was wet and he finshed 4th!!!

I'm willing to part with real cash if that helps ??

There's one near near me in Essex , he comes out to sprint it at North Weald sometimes , sometimes he brings his RS200 and sometimes he brings his single seater , often he brings all three (in his transporter ) and on a couple of occasions he has brought his De Tomaso Guara aswell.........reminds me of that lottery thread I was reading a few minutes ago , now where was my ticket

OK you asked for it, GURRYP

A rally driver contact at Rover sent me hundreds of pics a couple of years back, including quite a few of the 6R4. I don't have the original prints but...

Mid 1984 - The competition debut for the MG Metro 6R4 at the York National Rally. Tony Pond and Rob Arthur debuted the Metro 6R4 in the Yorkshire forests. This picture was taken in the 'woodyard' in the middle of Dalby forest.

Debut for the MG Metro 4R2 in mid 1984 at the York National Rally. The 4R2 is seen parked in Dalby forest the day the 6R4 was first rallied.

I don't have much information on the 4R2, or what powered it. I never realised there was such a beast until I looked through my image collection just now!

Great stuff keep it coming.

In particular anyone got any clear personal photo's of 6R4's.

Try visiting

where I'm in the process of building a site of all things 6R4.

Thanks

ok I just brought a 6r4, its done 26 miles from new, its painted in computervision colours and was used by rover as the offical show car during the 80s and is still as built, not registared and still has the original tyres on it with spare never been used. its number 147 and was the last car sold by rover in 1991.I value it at £ 30,000 + any questions, does anyone know were to find a workshop manual from.

There's a phrase for people like you. The first two words are "You lucky". Insert the third word to suit your tastes.

You value it at 30K, but would it be rude to ask how much you actually paid?

I'll second the "you lucky ****"!!

Have you asked any Rover dealers whether they have any old manuals? Failing that, try the MG Cars group website:

www.mgcars.org.uk

and snoop around there. They have a forum/BBS and classifieds, so hopefully you'll find either what you're looking for, or someone who can suggest other places to look.

Good luck with the manual, and post some pictures SOON!

Wow! I can see why you sold your soul - that's GORGEOUS!!

What do you plan to do with it? Use it as a road car or race/rally it? If you bring it out on the road, pleasepleaseplease bring it to a Ten-Tenths gathering sometime
