This is the 3rd decade in which Michael Andretti has had a win...do you think he will still be around in 10 years to repeat Mario's 4 decades?

I would rather see Mario get a win in his 5th decade than Mikey get a win in his 4th.
The big question is will Mikey have any crew members left in 10 years? |

Do you suppose Mario ever looks at Mikey and says "Maybe he's not really my kid?"
I don't mean that. I'm just goofing around ... (Jay will know where that is from. ) |

What do you all have against Michael Andretti? Is it because he's American? What then? My God, you all sound worse than he does with your juvenile posts.

"I like Paul, he says what he he thinks" "Well then he doesn't say much" |

Neil, I happen to be a fan of PT and hope that he wins the championship this year. (him or Vasser)
I was just wondering why you all hate Mikey. Is it because he does stupid things due to his aggression (need I remind you of PT's numerous accidents -Chicago last year?). Or that Mikey has hit pit crew members (Nazareth, 1997 ring a bell? It did for the Penske crew's bells.). What then? Please give me a halfway intelligent and rational explanation for all the Mikey-bashing. |

I don't know why other people don't like him. I do know why I don't. He whines. Nothing that ever goes wrong is his fault, according to him, although it is often his fault or equally his fault according to the other participants and the video replays. He calls the stewards and clerks of the course by their first names in his public rants (which he has many of) so we all know they are his best friends and won't be coming round his place with fines and scoldings. He says stupid things like "Paul Tracy has a death wish!" which seems to mean "Daddy, Paul Tracy's playing on MY CART TRACK, make him go home!" When he breaks rules, he is not punished unless there is a tremendous outcry from the other teams, and then he thinks it's "unfair" and says so on TV.
Finally, he is not a gentleman like his father is. Mario may be blunt spoken sometimes, but he is a gentleman all the time. His son is a spoilt, sullen, self-important brat. And that is why I don't like him. [This message has been edited by Liz (edited 18 May 2000).] |

Thank you, Liz. I respect your opinions.
Actually, a lot of the drivers call the officials by their first names. I do not get the feeling that he is whining to his father. He may just be a general whiner, but I don't think it's to Mario. What can Mario do about it? And it seems a lot of the drivers whine. Remember all the whining that went on at Chicago last year? |

Mario wouldn't do anything - but Mikey invokes his name under the impression that people who don't respect him will respect his father. In my opinion. Or perhaps at the beginning of his career Mario leaned on people to keep Mikey in the game, and now he thinks people will remember it.
I agree that everybody whines now and then - Phil Esposito always said it was "putting something in their ear for next time" - but Mikey does it continually. |

OK, could we agree that Paul and Mickey are just as bad as each other with their negative traits?
It's just their personalities, whoopty doo... Although i guess it makes you miss a personality like Greg when this is all we can talk about... |

We're crabby because we don't have any race to talk about. And thank heavens Robbie Gordon is gone or things would be even worse!
With so many pilotes out there, why do we focus on two or three of them? (Well, I focus on My Gil for a lot of reasons, some of them having to do with his racing ... as does Bella on Her Christian!) Why is nobody asking why the wheels always fall off Helio's car, no matter who he's driving for? |

Because he is a nice enough guy and doesnt complain and doesn't have a history of repeated crashings and hasn't run over pit crew and isn't generally annoying and blah blah....
LIZ, ARE YOU RAGGING REDNECK ROBBIE??? WHAT? WHY? Eeh, see if i care.... |

Well i am neither American or Canadian, so i guess i can sit here and pay out at you folk without starting a war with a neighbouring country....
Was it Paul Tracy in that Simpsons episode (directed at Sparky) who said "I am from Canada, and they think i'm slow, ay"... Stunning likeness Put another shrimp on the barbie I don't think it is because we hate you, it is just at times Mikey and Paul are unlikable. What about Vasser? Everyone loves Jimmy, and he's American right? |

I've met them all at Homestead many times and Mike has always been friendly to us.Jimmy's dad had us into the Hospitality tent after Jimmies first win and poured us all champagne. BUT , Juan was a spoiled punk from the day he arrived in Cart. It's not the country , It's the man..Give the Americans the same chance you give everyone else.

What have I ever said about Vasser? And if anybody's said Paul Tracy is an American, he'd be wrong.
Yeah I'm "jealous" of Americans. That's why I moved to Canada, right? You guys need a reality check. Yep, JPM has that Latin temperment and good for him. It was a bit much when he blamed Chip for the time he ran into Helio's stopped car - but he doesn't do that in every race (run into people and then blame it on other people). I rather think Chip put a stop to that right away. And now I'll go back into my Igloo and watch the F1 qualifying - which is just for "furriners" as I am told. Shame about no Americans making the step up into the Big Leagues, guys. Keep trying. |

We (and many others) do not like Micheal Andretti because he is overrated, and the American media only focuses on him. I would say it was because he is American, but they don't seem to pay much attention to Jimmy Vasser, another American. My guess is it is just his last name.
He has to be in the lead of Cart drivers for 2 car crashes. He has had a few incidents with Paul but he has also had incidents with almost every other driver, and he rarely ever admits his fault. He almost always whines that the other guy was doing a crazy move, and then says something like "I hope Wally was watching". Luckily, 'Wally' is gone now. He also seems to be very good at creating pitlane incidents. |
