1987 WTC Group A Volvo 740 Turbo - the black beauty that never raced

Does anyone have any pictures and any information on the proposed factory Volvo Group A 740 Turbo?
A black prototype of a race car was built during 1986-87, but it never got to race. There were two key reasons, as far as I am aware:
1) the WTCC ended after one season and Volvo did not want to just race in the ETCC in 1988.
2) Volvo went totally anti-motorsport.

Any weblinks, pictures, etc would be greatly appreciated.

Or are you referring to the Group A or DTM(?) 760 prototype that Volvo had built, but never raced? I believe that prototype is on display at Volvo's museuem in Goethenburg. I have a picture of a Group A 760 somewhere, will try to find a pic for you.

Don't forget Volvo did race a pair of Volvo 740 Turbo wagons in the British Escort radar detector endurance racing series back in the late 80s?

Here's a link to a picture of a plaque describing more about the 760 with a 2.3L turbo engine.

Look at the bottom of the page to find out the missing info from the picture.

Here's the picture of the black Volvo, it's actually a 760 as I mentioned previously. Interesting rear spoiler which looks more mid 90s than mid 80s.

yes, that's the car.
I just cannot find information about it anywhere - except Swedespeed (thanks for that kmchow).

The car in question is probably a bit too old for this forum - chances are you'll get a better response in Motorsport History.

Hopefully one of the mods can move it for you.

Since it basically died in the prototype stage, there's obviously very little information on it except from Volvo.

And even then, I'm not sure how much info Volvo would have kept on the car.
