Just back from Silverstone. Good race after a very long weekend. Brilliant drive from Richard Evans in the Abarth first time out. A water union came off so the engine over heated when john Crowson got in - very dissapointing . Lots of promise from the 2Litre car
Very good drive from the Reid/ Kelly car after the Abarth dropped away. Also an excellent result for Steve Tandy and Pete Chambers in Steves T70 finishing second |

I thought the entry for the sports cars was disapointing with far to many continuation cars entered.
Why do programmes always have the date of an original car in them rather than the real build date? |

id hardly call 30 cars dissapointing, the cars were awesome, ok not up to the standards of the classic last year, but that was truely awesome!...and as for continuation cars....just out of interest, if you didnt know they were continuation cars could you tell the difference???? i know i couldnt!!

According to my programme, there are FOUR cars with a (c) against them. That's not bad.
I was more saddened by the no show 512 and T33 TBH. Images on my Flickr page, from Sunday, as I took the kids down on the spur of the moment seeing WSM were running. |

I don't suppose you can tell a counterfeit fiver either!
Masters have to fill grids but replicas should be shown and race data transparent. People should have no issue with their inclusion as they run a business but they should not take the place of an actual historic car.How you tell which Lola is which beats me as there are 2 or three it seems of every T70 Mk 3 built.Same with two litre ish cars with those ally engines.Think we have been here before(many times). |

Given it was relatively early in the season and on Easter weekend when many people were away, the grids, especially WSM, looked very strong.

I was also saddened that t6hese 2 cars did not appear but I am sure there were 6 continuation cars, 3 x T70, 2 x B16 and a GT40.

JR, no I couldn't. I remember chatting to a shopkeeper once, as he and I had 3 different £5 notes between us. Neither knew if they were real or what.
I'm not a rivet counter, so no, I don't claim specific knowledge about what is, or is not, correct. But if they look right, sound right, and 'go' right, I don't really see the issue, except as discussed elsewhere re the cost implications. I know a well driven 2 litre T210 or Osella can beat a T70, especially one driven by an enthusiastic amateur, rather than a hot blooded pro. The only T70 that seemed to be REALLY driven was when Stretton sat in number 45! I'm not having a go now, merely trying to clear my own personal confusion? Talbot 105s. The 4 works cars that were together at the BDC last year, all had differences, major and/or minor? Should they have??? I don't know. |

Didn't know Talbots were covered in Masters!
Talbots-Seven Works cars spanning a nine year development period 31 to 39 so their are differences some major .Obviously differences as there were with T70's and all other cars in Period with changes over the V8 period. The point is do we do Historic Racing with cars with History or pretend look alikes? If it means filling grids they should be allowed in but not at expense of cars with history.Jenks called them fakes and in the end when people jumble the History that is what they will be .That is why they should be designated as such in entry lists. There is enough mix and matching with Lolas before they started reproducing them. How do you explain 2 litre ally engines in 210's? M.Stretton a brave driver. |

I think that you will find that Simon Hadfield and Ollie Bryant are pretty quick in T70s too. In fact check out who put the fastest T70 lap in last year's Silverstone Classic meeting.

There are indeed quite more than a couple of sentences about this subject elsewhere on the forums, but it seems to me the "objection" made here was not to the existence of continuation cars, but how/where they are presented which is a related but very different topic.

OK I know a lot of VSCC type cars are new builds but they are usually made from old bits! |

Truth is Bob that not many sane drivers would wish to risk their backsides in a basket of fatigued metal. Few cars would have significant original components. Even in period bits were changed frequently so 30/40/50 years later we are left with nothing but "continiuation cars". Arguably a declared continuation car is more honest than others on the grid!
Still nice to see if they swell grids - there's no suggestion of a performance advantage and they're a lot cheaper for not having to pay for some theoretical DNA called provenance. |

It's like that scene in only fools and horses "I have had the same broom for over 10 years - in that time it has had 4 new heads & 3 new handles"

just out of interest, and no disrespect meant, but how much of the original cars, are still original??? surely over the years, they have been crashed and updated to meet the new fia rules, so i wonder how much of an original car is still in existance? i know certainly in drag racing, 90 percent of historic cars, are actually new because chassis regs have changed alot since the 60s and 70s to increase safety, but that doesnt put people off, if they still look nostalgic then its good enough for most people

Copy Cars-There is a long thread on the subject ,and not much has changed ,which raised most of the points cons and pros.
We had the Triggers brush discussion but don't think we had the copy cars may be considered more real than cars with History,New one on me! Bootleg Beetles more real than the originals. It has been done to death and it seems that spectators don't mind much what the cars are or is the lack of spectators due to people not liking watching pretend cars. Perhaps many owners do not want to use original cars in racing as they have to be buggered about with to race.Have this situation with Carrera GT and not prepared to carve it up. |
