Round 3, Spielberg
So, it's time for the third round of DTM.
Neu Spielberg - a very fast racing track with average speed over than 180 km/h. It would be even faster if it was Osterreichring. But it was cropped, lost its wonderful righthand bankings and became what it is now. Audi R14 should be good at speed corners in the middle, but Mercedes C-Klasse has better torque and top-speed. A 6-hour tests were held yesterday, and results are very close - 17 drivers within 0,5 second. |

And nice to see this track back in action after a lay off. (I will be watching one of the support races to give myself a reminder want its looks like)

Rain at Spielberg now, sort of washing the session partly away

I hope that the field will be mixed properly, and that the race will be more or less close. A field within one second and a top 5 consisting of 08-cars sound pretty good indeed.

Ah, I've twice posted a quick reply that I'd prefer a wet race but it didn't work.
As for tyres, I don't think there'll be any problems. There're few speed turns - just long straights and sharp slow corners. And tyres became more durable since 2009. |

I thought the idea was that they were going to add a new loop to the Zeltweg track, joining it back onto the old dis-used bit of circuit?

It was an old plan. New owners just rebuild A1-Ring track, put new grandstands and new asphalt. Even track length remain the same.

Even though there are only 25,000 spectators, the venue is sold-out, and properly filled in qualifying. And it's raining now. So far, the DTM is delivering a good show to the Austrians.
EDIT: The weekend is ruined for Eki...again! |

EDIT: Q2 is red-flagged. It's too much water on the track, so that's probably for the better. |

Rain stopped, and clouds are gone. I'd prefer rain for race.

What is weather forecast for Sunday? Cloudly, thunderstorm in the morning and 85-90% humidity at 14.00-16.00.

Paffett and Spengler still can not get into top-4.

Spengler was commenting Tomczyks fast lap at dtm radio. Interesting.

Bruno stays at track, no pit-stop, but gap is closing. Problems with radio?

Haven't the least idea Helgi, coverage in Italian I think.
Haven't seen Jarvis at the front for awhile. A few bumps going around there. |

At last it was a right strategy fo Spengler, and bad for Rocky. Still was waiting for some overtaking at last laps but... And those clouds could come a bit earlier to make race more unpredictable.

Yeah, some rain would've spiced things up considerable, but still, I enjoyed the race. A stellar drive there from Spengler! And again, nice seeing Jarvis back in the fray.
