woodyracing should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
WRC budget ?

Anyone know roughly how much it would cost a privateer to do the whole WRC (including price of a WRC car) ?

Not sure - You are looking at around £1,000,000 I would think maybe more.

heh, certainly not for me.
my brothers mate is a rally driver and he was on about raising some money and my brother wasn't sure which championship he was aiming at. I guess it would be the British rally championship then.

cheers

Well, if he hasn't competed at the national level yet, I'd say his best value is a single-marque championship, without a doubt.

The Peugeot 206 Super Cup even has TV coverage over this side of the pond! (courtesy of Motorsport Mundial) Plus that car'll hold it's value well when he's ready to move up to a BRC or European Championship program S1600, Group N or GrpA/WRC.

I'm sad to say there's no way anyone can do the WRC as a privateer, but a good outing could certainly be had as a wildcard entry in a few events.

thanks, it does seem an extremely expensive form of motorsport. My brothers mate has already won a single make national championship. So is quite a serious contender, also has a very large budget. Id rather not say who he is though because its not my business to be talking about his plans etc

Im sure I heard someone say on Channel 4 when they did a comparisson between the top and bottom of the series that the minimum was £10,000 lol mind u they did have the old panel beater there.

Still a lot cheaper than a million.

lots of money spent or lot of shoestrings, you can't just jump into the BRC and be competetive best get the car sorted at 'nearly BRC' events such as the rally of Kent

Well, that's one of the advantages of rallying... The Group N and Group A classes are the same almost everywhere... S1600 and WRC are becoming more generally accepted, so there's always plenty of opportunity to sort the car out.

On the downside, a Celica or a Delta Integrale ain't gonna cut it anymore... Gotta go with a Lancer Evo, or one of the 1600 cars... So that knocks the price _way_ up.

It's the price of being in a competitive championship, I suppose. The rallying scene here is pathetic... Driving talent is so rare that a good driver could go out and totally dominate Grp N in an '88 Celica! But, he'd never get noticed... Besides, if all he could afford was the Celica, the entry fees and travel costs would eat him alive before the end of the season... Potential sponsors just stare at you blankly when you say you want to go rallying.

imull has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Antony Warmbold has just forked out about 2m Euros for a Focus ride nest year and the lad at Hyundai has paid about 1m Euro for 7 rallies (half season).

Most cars now cost about £500k but I think that includes some sort of service schedule. Engines, for example, need rebuilding after about 600 miles I believe

Yipes! Lotta money!!!

It's gotta easier to run a Grp A Lancer Evo VI out of your own raceshop than, and more competitive too, than paying such an insane amount for a Hyundai!
