Tracy on Letterman

Just a quick note to let everybody know that Paul Tracy will be on the Letterman Show, this Friday on CBS.

Flatspot should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
That's great. I'm glad to see Letterman stick with CART and Rahal. He's done a good job over the years giving the drivers exposure on his show.

I wonder if he could get his mom to take a few laps in a ChampCar?

Letterman: So isn't it cool that your racing in the best series that there is, if i invested in a series (hypotheticaly) it sure would be CART!
PT: Why, Yes, Dave. Buddy, Oh, Pall. Ofcourse, Cart is the best.
Letterman: so tell me : why didn't my team win?
PT: cos i was better.

Just slightly. Jourdain had fewer brain fades!

Rahal/Letterman own cars in both CART and IRL. Letterman just had Scott Dixon on his show a couple weeks ago also.

Good info, I knew Rahal was in both but didn't know Letterman was. Thanks.

I watched the show and it was very nice. PT mentioned that about 10 years ago he made it to the show... then he said something like "and I told to myself I will come to this show again. Then I won the Indy 500 and you didn't invite me"... and they chatted a little bit about that.

Later on, Letterman read a list of fines that PT had received: several fines of 25,000 for dangerous driving and unnecessary risk... then Letterman remarked: "2002 and I saw that on TV... 50,000 for calling the former chief steward a clown!!! Wellcome to the circus!!!"

Finally, David congratulated PT for his championship and for driving his Porsche twin-turbo at 204 mph in the desert of Nevada.

Sounds like a really funny and meaningful interview. Tony George and cohorts will have been cringing. Maybe Letterman isn't keen to back an IRL team, especially after Brack's crash (which I'm sure wasn't mentioned).

It'd be great to see Bobby return to a 2-car CART team, especially as he split the team only a few months after saying he'd never race in the IRL. His CART team did better in 2003 and his CART driver isn't in traction - that's gotta be a good ad for his involvement in the series.

I was actually a little disappointed. The whole thing seemed a bit lame. Mind you, I'm glad that PT got the airtime.

It really seemed like Dave was trying to play up PT's "bad boy" image with that line of questioning, but PT didn't bite - he just smiled coyly without saying anything.

I'm not sure what to think about it really - maybe PT was zoned out from all the travel and interviews, or maybe a PR hack go to him. He didn't quite seem his 'normal' self.

It was a decent interview. You have to keep in mind that most of the people in the crowd, and most of the television viewers don't know who he is, or know very little of him and CART, so its hard for Letterman to keep people interested in the interview. It would have helped to maybe show a 30 second or 1 minute clip of CART racing summarizing the season with some intense music and racing footage and showing Paul crying when holding up the Vanderbilt cup after the Australia race. People eat that stuff up. Or maybe the did show something like that, and I just forgot as I was forcing myself to stay awake after a long day.

Remember when Villeneuve won the Indy 500 and he raced a cab driver around the block on Letterman? Should have had Tracy do that. I think he would have won

Letterman did that to keep viewers interested as stated above most of them dont know what CARTY is he always was saying CARt Racing. We all know that good guys finish last, and Letterman was trying to exploit that, and if Rahal can get a sponsor for the second car I'm pretty sure he will do it. I'm just wondering who migth that be?
