Would Williams actually be the best choice for Villeneuve to return to F1 with?
The "Villeneuve to Williams" rumours are certainly doing the rounds that's for sure. But one thing I'm not too sure about is:
Is Williams actually the best choice for Villeneuve? I know he was with them when he won the title, but they are being outpaced by Renault and Villeneuve's former BAR Honda team. If I was Villeneuve I would probably be trying to get a drive with Renault rather than Williams at the moment. What do you think? |

But does Renault want him? It's certainly easier for him to go to Williams with two likely empty seats than Renault, where Alonso is the next superstar and Trulli is actualyl doing better than FA...

Yes, that would seem to be the better at present but you can't always get what you want as Williams seems a much more viable option with one, and quite possibly two vacant seats for 2005.
But also then you have the Gascoyne effect which Renault no longer have so it's not really clear which team would be the better choice for next season. But as it is now, Renault is a better bet for sure. |

Oh God! Do we really need another JV might come back thread? Or is this another one of those comedy moments?
Please delete it, oh fine moderator! |

I honestly think that Williams has more choices than JV.
I'd rather ask "is JV the best choice for Williams?"... |

Actually I'm hoping for Villeneuve to land a Toyota seat, remember there will be two seats available there as well. Toyota are already making the best engines and with (Renault's) Gascoyne they'll be challenging for wins next year and perhaps the championship in 2006 or 2007.
Also it would be the best way to take a new team to the championship which JV was prevented of doing at BAR! And who better to steal championships away from the back-stabbing Honda than with their arch rivals, Toyota!...Sweeet sweeet revenge baby. Last edited by TeddyG; 23 May 2004 at 02:13. |

Doesn't it seem sad that drivers like Fisichella, Coultard, Barrichello, and Ralf all have secure seats in F1, despite having had race winning cars for many more seasons than Jacques, yet failing to chalk up as many wins as he (let alone a WDC) that it is Jacques who doesn't have a drive in F1??? Sad indeed. |

Well if he had a choice (which he don't), isn't Ferrari the best car out there, with say Michael Schumacher moving to Minardi.

I think that Toyota would be a big mistake, and Renault will only hire Flavio managed drivers. Williams is JV's best option, unless Michael decides to retire at the end of the year!!

Exactly.
A note for some people: You don't need to see ALL threads in Ten-Tenths. It'll save your time and make you happier too. |

I think you presume too much, Kirk.
I don't see any anti-JV flame - just a certain frustration at the number of very similar JV related threads that pop up with the slightest provocation... Look at it this way - if there weren't quite so many speculative JV threads that don't have any foundation in fact, maybe you wouldn't be quite so defensive all the time as soon as someone dares to point that out? |

Whilst there are a lot of JV threads, people are still interested enough to post to them. So let the market operate (unless rules are being broken).
Oh, and if JV has a choice between Williams and Toyota, go Williams cause Toyota are going to be on the steep and painful bit of the learning curve for a couple of more years (and JV will likely only get the one, if that) |

Every JV thread turns into a discussion about JV threads! Is this because of the lack of substance?
They won't be closed unless we get into a situation where they go totally off topic or become a bun fight. Whatever, if you have a problem with a post why not use the warn button. Lets get back on topic... Last edited by Adam43; 24 May 2004 at 12:32. |

If you mean that the person of the subject is missing in the grid this season, you completely right ! So there's nothing much to say, but "if"s and "maybe"s... lack of substance, certainly. |

I must be a complete idiot! I forgot that JV is actually on the grid this year and has offers of a drive pouring through his letter box.
Still at least I kept my sense of humour. So I apologise wholeheartedly to all those JV fans. You can of course delete this post as soon as you read it Adam. |

Since JV doesn't have a test drive, let alone an offer of a race drive and this is pure fantacy, I think the best option for him would be....
1) Michael retires at end of 2004 and JV takes his place at Ferrari. 2) Rubens signs new contract where he promises not to pass JV. 3) Montoya, Kimi, Button, Alonso, Trulli and anyone else that might be a threat also retire. Let's revisit this subject if he gets any offers and a test drive.... and not before. |

Well tsn.ca is reporting that a Williams test is in fact already agreed upon for Villeneuve, supposedly after the US GP in Jerez.

Have they moved the USGP to Jerez?
Latest from www.grandprix.com suggests Toyota is a more likely option, and I generally respect their reports. |
