NGTC: Which cars do you wanna see?
With BTCC introducing the Next Generation Touring Car in 2011. For fun I made a list of 5 cars I want to see on the grid:
1. Vauxhall/Opel Insignia 2. Ford Mondeo 3. Volkswagen Passat 4. Honda Accord 5. Toyota Avensis On my shortlist: Volvo S40 Mazda 6 Alfa Romeo 159 Which 5 cars do you wanna see? |

How many different car models will be elegible, anyway? I mean, leaving out the Chinese for a moment, which cars would actually be possible?
The ADAC-Pannenstatistik lists the following cars under middleclass: (Mercedes C-Class) Audi A4 (BMW 3 series) VW Passat Skoda Octavia Toyota Avensis Mazda 6 Volvo S40/V40/V50 Renault Laguna Opel Vectra (then Vauxhall Insignia) Ford Mondeo of those the Mercedes and the Bimmer are RWD and not possible, but then there's also: Citroen C5 Seat Exeo Alfa 159 Peugeot 407 (then 408) Mitsubishi Lancer Chevy Cruze Honda Accord Did I forget someone important? Do Fiat or Nissan have family-sedans right now? Anyway, here's my list: - Mitsubishi Lancer - Mazda 6 - Renault Laguna - Vauxhall Insignia - Ford Mondeo But I also really want the Passat and the Accord... |

I think the Fiat Bravo won't be allowed, but the car looks damn sporty! Would be nice to see it with a rear wing and with an engine making a lot of noise...

If the cost does turn out to be as low as claimed, the manufacturers could come flooding back.
I like the sound of these rules, hope it triggers a revival. |

The Insignia, Accord, Passat and Avensis are all too narrow for the rules. ...unless they run with crazy wheel arches

Would love to see Alfa's, Audis, Mitsubushi's and Subaru's banging doors with the Vauxhalls and Fords etc.

I think you may need to read the rules more thoroughly. The rules say the width of the cars will be standardised so that they all run to the same 1875 width. The Accord for example is 1840 wide, so it would be increased to 1875 which is only about an extra 1.5 inches....so less than a two inch width increase doesn't mean "crazy wheel arches"! Same goes for all the other cars you stated, they are all within only a couple of inches of the 1875 so widening them will be hardly noticeable.

I guess that depends on if other TCC adapt the same rules. Likely 1 eligible in 1 country will be granted participation in another (like eg local homologation between BTCC and STCC cars are today).

IF so, it might be relaxed under NGTC? |

There isn't a UK sale rule for Super 2000 - cars can either be FIA homologated or BTCC nationally - the BTCC and Swedish TCC have an agreement to share a list of national homologations. I'm not sure if the 320si was offered in the UK.
If other series were to adopt NGTC, it wouldn't be a good idea to box teams in that way - Vauxhalls and Opels would probably need different homologations, when the only part that is different between the two road cars is the badge. |

If I'm understanding it correctly, and I guess it will be in the regulation details, under NGTC cars that aren't available in the UK/EU will still be eligible for use under the rules?

I'd imagine they are more akin to a mixture of BTC-T and the SEAT Leon Supercopa cars.
