Changes To The Chase
It appears that there will be some changes to the chase this season. What I am hearing is they will increase the format from 10 teams to 12 teams. Also, that they will give an additional 10 pointst for a win.

yeah, i also heard that anybody that wins a race is included as well as all past champions. If they do that we could get 43 cars chasing the cup! lol

A knee-jerk change to a system that was irreparably flawed in the first place. They wanted to change it two years ago after Gordon and Earnhardt were both locked out, even though they would not have been a factor either way. After locking Stewart out of the Chase last year when he would have finished fourth in the old points system, they saw no reason to hesitate.
Of course, if Tony would have been in the Chase last year, he would have clinched the NEXTEL Cup with two races to spare; the new format wouldn't have made the final standings any tighter. It appeases sponsors and "name" drivers, because they will gain more face time, but it's not going to make things more fair or more exciting. |

Here's a radical idea. How about scrapping The Chase and awarding the title to the chap who is most competitive THROUGHOUT THE BLOODY SEASON??????

The old system would have had JJ winning by only 4 points over Kenseth, now that would have been exciting.
That said, I don't really care what they do with the chase... |

I would scrap the chase - but move the races at the end of the season to mid-week evening time slots so it doesn't clash with NFL games. So if C5 got the live rights, I could watch the NASCAR on Wednesday or Thursday and not miss the football

I don't think The Chase goes far enough. Narrow it down to the final race. Then throw a yellow with 5 laps to go and shuffle the top 10 points runners to the first 10 places. Chap who wins is the Champion. Think that's fair, don't you?

Well, it is official. I found this on the official Nascar site today:
Starting this season, the 400-point cutoff is eliminated and the top 12 drivers in the points after Race 26 will qualify for the Chase. All 12 drivers will have their point totals re-set to 5,000; each will then receive a 10-point bonus for each race victory they had during the first 26 races. I believe most people here have the same view on the chase as I have, it shouldn't be there. Still, we just have to accept it. And when your favourite driver makes it to the chase, those final 10 races are quite exciting. |

What I meant was that you have to accept it, cause there's nothing you can do about it. Nascar has it's own will and they dont listen to the fans, just have a look at that machine they call the car of tomorrow. |

Another change. The Champions provisional will be limited to 6 starts instead of the unlimited that it had been.
